CPS now say they private messaged him.
Ya they edited out the investigating officer's phone number.
CPS now say they private messaged him.
Well... he put his name, story, picture, friends, posts, and history out there for all to see... it's not really a demonstration of concern for his own privacy or personal safety.
Had he discreetly phoned CPS, no one would know who he is. He outed himself.
He should have but he could have been in a state of panic and was not thinking clearly. His rights may have been violated from the beginning but I don't know the law.
And this is where I worry about broadcasting this person as wanted for an unrelated matter that he is not considered a suspect. What if she was robbed and those that robbed her are also involved in her disappearance and this AP person saw who that was and now he has been identified thru his photograph first and now his name? What if he is truly an honest kid who returned a wallett and now is freaking out because his privacy was violated and now possibly his safety. He must know more because surely CPS would not put an innocent bystander at risk.
There is an 'acting in the public interest' element in LE posting someone they need to speak to. They said he is not a suspect. He should have but he could have been in a state of panic and was not thinking clearly. His rights may have been violated from the beginning but I don't know the law.
deletedJust as an aside...
Calgary sure has a disproportionate share of strange events, especially when it comes to missing persons.

There was no need to panic. He calls CPS and they release that they found him, spoke to him, and thank everyone and the man in question for their efforts.

I get the impression that police had already been trying and trying to contact him through other means, but were unsuccessful and so had to resort to this measure... which wouldn't have happened if only he had spoken to them in the first place.. so why didn't he? They knew his name and appearance, like his place of work, address, phone number, perhaps spoke to family members/friends.. that is what I believe.. I'm sure they did their underground research first before outting him.
I wonder how long this web story had been published before AP commented in the comments section, ie.. he is obviously watching this story in the news?
In all fairness, he may not have been aware they were looking for him until someone he knew saw his picture online and contacted him.I get the impression that police had already been trying and trying to contact him through other means, but were unsuccessful and so had to resort to this measure... which wouldn't have happened if only he had spoken to them in the first place.. so why didn't he? Then why would you post it here?I guess this is how rumors can tend to get started..
(modsnip)
I don't understand why they released his photo in the hopes that someone would recognize him and convince him to come forward if they know who he is. Why don't they just go pick him up and ask him?
They said it came from a tip. Chances are someone knew him and the ID story. It's probably their picture... or she could cloud save her pictures...maybe the pic was lifted off her phone and there is no accompanying name with it?
Then why would you post it here?
