"A Stratford man missing for more than two decades has been located alive and well in Ottawa.

Stratford Police reported Thursday that John Zacher, who was first reported missing from the city in 1993, has been found in the nation’s capital, living under an alias.

“This was some pretty diligent police work,” said Deputy Chief Mike Bellai, crediting Det. Sgt. Rob Byatt and Det. Dan Gray for their efforts on the case.

Zacher, who was 45 when he disappeared, was last seen by his wife May 11, 1993 at their Stratford home.

Bellai said the city’s criminal investigation division has received a number of tips over the years, but none of them panned out.

An age-enhanced sketch of Zacher was done a few years ago, and his information was added to a national missing person database."

So did he disappear of his own free will?

Cases like this are so bizarre to me. Stratford and Ottawa are not even all that far from each other!
