Hard to believe the plea - considering this gruesome account.

Crown prosecutor Lawrence Van Dyke has told the jury he suspects the defence will claim the kill diary is in fact a lurid, but harmless work of fiction.

Twitchell, meanwhile, signalled on the trial's first day how he will explain away the blood and burned body parts.

He pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, but offered to plead guilty to a reduced charge of interfering with a dead body.

The Crown rejected it, but the inference was clear: Mark Twitchell may have dealt with Altinger's corpse, but he didn't take his life.

EDMONTON -- The murder trial of Edmonton film maker Mark Twitchell resumed Monday with testimony from his former wife on the couple's strained relationship.

Jess Twitchell, 35, said the pair had met fall 2005 on a dating website and married January 2007. By the fall of 2008, things in the relationship were “not good,” Jess told court.

Talk about "creepy", this guy wrote the script!

The jury has heard Twitchell told police about the Mazda after he was first questioned regarding the disappearance of Altinger, due to him renting the garage Altinger had described to friends as the place he was to rendezvous with a woman he had met on an Internet dating site.

Twitchell also told police after his first interview about a couple of other "odd" things which were giving him "the creeps" that he had forgotten to tell them about.

Ben Gelinas from The Edmonton Journal is live blogging from the courtroom. Court is adjourned for today. The testimony today was the contents of a file from Twitchell's laptop. Ben Gelinas is going to post the manuscript into a viewable document shortly. It is a very chilling crime....

Thanks Twinkle, the only other live blogs I've heard of were for the Russell Williams trial. This case is so twisted.

Isn't he a badA$$? Have you read the manuscript? It was fascinating look into the mind of a killer. I have never read anything like that before.

Russel Williams case was very interesting too!

Who says Canadians are dull.

"I remember thinking how hilarious and dramatically ironic it was that the cop had pulled over a cold-blooded murderer who had a dismembered body in his rented garage not too far away and had no clue what was going on," writes the author.

"He just did his duty and took off. Now every time I pass a police car on the road I chuckle to myself."

IMO Traci Higgins & Sheriff Reich confirmed the events that Twitchell wrote about in his manuscript were actual live events and not fiction. I had to chuckle when I read Sheriff Reich's comments when he stopped Twitchell for speeding. I know it is a very, very serious crime but ....

Twitchel messaged a facebook friend telling them this message:

"Suffice it to say that I crossed the line on Friday ... and I liked it
," Twitchell wrote to Renee Waring in a Facebook message on Oct. 14, 2008.

The Crown alleges Twitchell, 31, killed and dismembered Johnny Altinger, 38, on Friday, Oct. 10.

Unbelievable, did this guy want to be caught??? Thank goodness he left such a trail. I wish he would just plead guilty and stop wasting everyone's time and money on his stupid games. There seems to be an epidemic of obviously guilty murderers who really feel that they can beat their charges. He can rot in prison and enjoy his fame from there.

Can anyone tell me if Twitchell grew up in Alberta?

Sillybilly, most of the online bios say Edmonton raised, but in the deep parts of my foggy brain I remember something about him spending time in Europe. I will see if I can find it. He was such a liar that might have been one of his fibs too, hard to say.
