Conception Bay North resident Josh Wall, 26, is missing in a raging Newfoundland blizzard. He left his Roaches Line home to walk to a friend's house at 12:30 p.m. NT on Friday and has not been heard from since. (Submitted)
''A search has been launched for a young man missing in a rural area near Newfoundland's Conception Bay region. He went into the woods Friday as a blizzard was ramping up and has what his family describes as "health issues."
Joshua Wall, 26, left his family home on Roaches Line just after noon NT on Friday to visit a friend. His family has not heard from him since.
A Cormorant helicopter from 9 Wing Gander is being dispatched to assist in the search.
It's believed he lost his way while walking along a backcountry trail between Roaches Line and the community of Marysvale, according to his father, Wayne Wall.
"I've been up on the back trails and as we speak, no luck," Wayne Wall told CBC News Saturday.
Wall said he was searching himself, but the snow was "up to my shoulders."
"He's a very strong young man. A big boy with some health issues," Wall said earlier.
So far, Wall said, there has been no sign of his son.
Bay Roberts RCMP and the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue also mobilized a search party on Saturday, using an Argo amphibious vehicle and snowmobiles, according to an RCMP statement.
"Search efforts were attempted yesterday but were hampered by severe weather conditions," the statement said.
Wall said his son, who is prone to anxiety attacks, was in pain Friday morning and wanted to go to the hospital, but the storm prevented them from travelling.
Josh Wall later told his parents he was going to visit a friend in Marysvale, and decided to leave on foot around 12:30 p.m. after he couldn't get a taxi.
A few hours later, Wayne Wall tried calling his son on his cellphone, but it went straight to voicemail. He later learned that Josh had sent his location via his cellphone to his friend in Marysvale, with a note saying he was lost and his phone's battery was about to run out of power.
His last known location was on a backcountry path through the wilderness, and Wall said his son is not familiar with the area.
Josh Wall was wearing a heavy winter jacket and a warm hat, mittens and boots. But it's not believed he was wearing snow pants.
Wayne Wall said he had also made an attempt to search for his son on Friday, but the snow and wind conditions were too treacherous.''
