Conception Bay North resident Josh Wall, 26, is missing in a raging Newfoundland blizzard. He left his Roaches Line home to walk to a friend's house at 12:30 p.m. NT on Friday and has not been heard from since. (Submitted)
''A search has been launched for a young man missing in a rural area near Newfoundland's Conception Bay region. He went into the woods Friday as a blizzard was ramping up and has what his family describes as "health issues."

Joshua Wall, 26, left his family home on Roaches Line just after noon NT on Friday to visit a friend. His family has not heard from him since.

A Cormorant helicopter from 9 Wing Gander is being dispatched to assist in the search.

It's believed he lost his way while walking along a backcountry trail between Roaches Line and the community of Marysvale, according to his father, Wayne Wall.

"I've been up on the back trails and as we speak, no luck," Wayne Wall told CBC News Saturday.

Wall said he was searching himself, but the snow was "up to my shoulders."

"He's a very strong young man. A big boy with some health issues," Wall said earlier.

So far, Wall said, there has been no sign of his son.

Bay Roberts RCMP and the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue also mobilized a search party on Saturday, using an Argo amphibious vehicle and snowmobiles, according to an RCMP statement.

"Search efforts were attempted yesterday but were hampered by severe weather conditions," the statement said.

Wall said his son, who is prone to anxiety attacks, was in pain Friday morning and wanted to go to the hospital, but the storm prevented them from travelling.

Josh Wall later told his parents he was going to visit a friend in Marysvale, and decided to leave on foot around 12:30 p.m. after he couldn't get a taxi.

A few hours later, Wayne Wall tried calling his son on his cellphone, but it went straight to voicemail. He later learned that Josh had sent his location via his cellphone to his friend in Marysvale, with a note saying he was lost and his phone's battery was about to run out of power.

His last known location was on a backcountry path through the wilderness, and Wall said his son is not familiar with the area.

Josh Wall was wearing a heavy winter jacket and a warm hat, mittens and boots. But it's not believed he was wearing snow pants.

Wayne Wall said he had also made an attempt to search for his son on Friday, but the snow and wind conditions were too treacherous.''

''Police say they believe that Wall is in a wooded area between the two communities, and his worried relatives posted images of the young man on social media.

“Please share this post as his family is worried sick and we are desperately trying to find him,” wrote his mother on her Facebook page.''
''The intense snowfall that brought St. John’s and many other communities to a standstill on Friday slowed overnight and ended in the capital Saturday morning.

But with more than 70 centimetres of new snow on the ground in some areas and strong winds piling up drifts and creating white out conditions, roads remained treacherous''.

Oh my, hoping Josh is found okay...when do they plan on being able to attempt a SAR? So his medical issues are anxiety then? If he was in pain but couldnt go to hospital bc of storm, why would he walk with a low battery to a friends house?? MOO

Guessing that due to the storm, he may not have been able to charge his phone battery, and as an anxious young fellow, maybe he was desperate to see his friend and to get out of the house?
His family must be worried sick, hope Josh has found a spot to hunker down until he is rescued.
speculation, imo.

I have the same questions as well. Why, why, why? With that much snow it would be a miserable trek no matter how far he was walking. And he wasn’t wearing snow pants either so his legs would be so wet & cold if he only has jeans on. No mention of food either, so this sounds bad. Dang this sounds very bad.

Oh my, this is so serious! How can he possibly survive? I get the sense that this young man with health issues is perhaps mentally challenged. His poor parents must be sick with worry.
I'm not so sure. Have you ever had really bad anxiety where you just needed to GET OUT of the place you were in? Anxiety can be so powerful.

''We're currently experiencing service disruptions throughout Newfoundland due to inclement weather, but expect things to be resolved by January 20th, 6:00PM. Thanks for your patience.''

''UPDATE: The RCMP says that Joshua Wall has not been located and that ground search efforts by Bay Roberts RCMP and the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue have been suspended until morning.

The Cormorant out of 9 Wing Gander that has been supporting search efforts today will do one more pass of the area this evening.''

''On Saturday, the Bay Roberts RCMP and the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue are using a snowmobile and an Argo all-terrain vehicle to search for the man who was on his way to a friends house in Marysvale, the press release said.

A CH149 Cormorant from 9 Wing Gander will also assist the search.

Wall is thought to be in a wooded area between Roaches Line and Marysvale.''

His parents mentioned that he has anxiety, but the young man left for a village that was 16kms away, through wilderness that was not familiar to him, so there is something more than just anxiety.

His father calls him a "big boy with some health issues". Sometimes parents of adult children with diminished cognitive capabilities use such endearing terms when speaking of their children. moo

They must be broken hearted. How can anyone survive these conditions?

Wondering if the phone can be tracked after it runs out of power?
''His parents said Josh has "health issues," is prone to panic attacks and is not familiar with the wilderness area he entered.

He messaged his location in the wilderness to his friend in Marysvale around 1 p.m. on Friday, his father said, along with a message saying he was lost and that his phone's battery was low on power.

"I'm asking people to go to the end of your backyard, look and call out his name. Check behind your homes. Check for footprints," an emotional Nora Wall said.''

That is what I was thinking, the anxiety had to be profound for him to go out in that kind of weather. FWIW.

If Josh knows some survival skills, there are ways.

Apparently, digging a hole in snow can keep you alive. But, if he was in pain, he probably wasn't thinking clearly at all.

Snow may be cold but it can keep you warm

Worrying about the outcome to this situation.

''The search has resumed for a Roaches Line, N.L., man who went missing as a blizzard intensified in eastern Newfoundland early Friday afternoon.

Bay Roberts RCMP, the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue and a CH149 Cormorant from 9 Wing Gander are all part of the search for 26-year-old Josh Wall, as is an RCMP police dog.

"It is now believed that Joshua may have made it out of the wooded area, where he was walking to get to a friend's home in Marysvale, and back onto Roaches Line," an RCMP press release said Sunday. Roaches Line is a village in the area of Conception Bay North.

"Residents in the general area are asked to search their properties, vehicles, sheds and other outbuildings, in the event Joshua sought shelter there."

"I'm frantic this morning," his mother, Nora Wall, told CBC's Terry Roberts on Sunday''.

''For a third day, police officers and volunteer search and rescue specialists with the Avalon North Wolverines will be scouring the terrain near the Conception Bay community of Roaches Line.''

''Searchers are assessing whether there's a need to recall air support to the area, she added.

Power said the strategy Monday is to widen the search beyond the known trails in the wilderness area between Roaches Line and the community of Marysvale.

Joshua has now been missing for three full days, and his family remains hopeful that he found some type of shelter and will be rescued.

"My son is out there somewhere. He's most likely cold. Hopefully he's hung up into a shelter," Wayne told CBC's Kayla Hounsell on Sunday.''
