Found Deceased Canada - Kaden Young, 3, swept away in flood waters, Grand Valley, Ont, 21 Feb 2018 *arrest*

So far it's looking like mom was too high/drunk to use good judgement when she chose to go through the barrier that closed off the road. But that April 24 arrest for assault on Kaden's dad is awfully close in time to the accident. It happened on April 12. There may be nothing nefarious but it's thought-provoking. Was mom imbibing due to tensions between her and Kaden's dad? Were her reflexes impaired? Was there something more?

According to this article the Crown Attorney's office in Orangeville guided OPP as to what charges to bring. IOW, what could be proven in court. IMO LE may have additional suspicions about that night but they'd need solid evidence to back it up. MOO.

Mother of Kaden Young charged by Dufferin OPP in toddler’s death
Earlier OPP said they would release the autopsy report to family and that it's not public information. I wonder if that will change because of the new charges? I guess we'll get more information on November 6.

Now that she's been charged it should be okay to link her FB before everything goes poof! Note: we can read it but not discuss it here.

The accident happened on February 21st...a couple months before the assault charges.

Ugh. So Mom is f*cked up and decides around midnight on a school/work night after several days of rain/possible flooding - she needs cigarettes. Tells Dad that she is taking the youngest child who is still awake.

Guessing drugs were in the house.....

Yeah, my post was clear as mud - I was wondering out loud about the assault (April 12) being close to the time Kaden's body was found (April 21). I was trying to get a snapshot of Kaden's home life and the interactions between the parents. Unfortunately I didn't word it very well. Sorry about that.

Crown drops dangerous driving causing death charge against Kaden Young’s mother

Assistant Crown attorney Danielle Garbaty confirmed to Global News that the charge of dangerous driving causing death was withdrawn during Michelle Hanson’s court appearance on Tuesday, May 7.

Garbaty said the charge was “duplicitous” and “included in the offence of criminal negligence causing death.”

Hanson now faces two charges: impaired driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death related to the death of her son, Kaden Young.
....

During Hanson’s appearance on Tuesday, a date was set for a preliminary inquiry to begin on July 8 in an Orangeville courtroom.

Hanson has chosen to face trial by judge and jury.

Mother of Kaden Young will plea ‘not guilty’ to all charges laid in connection to her son’s death, lawyer says

....
When contacted by The Banner, Forte said that he has not reviewed the family court custody documents yet; however, he did indicate the OPP toxicology report that he has reviewed tells a different story.

“The toxicology report that I have reviewed from the police toxicologist disclosed that cocaine was not found in her system,” Forte said. “And that the trace amounts of other prescription drugs in her system were consistent with therapeutic levels and not recreational drug use.”

Forte also indicated that Hanson was made to provide a breath test at about 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2018 — an estimated then three hours following the incident — and her blood alcohol content (BAC) registered “well under the legal limit” between 32 to 33 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

“She was only asked to provide one sample by the breath technician who took the test,” Forte added. “He also didn't note any indicia of alcohol.”

‘Too early’ to request change of court venue, says lawyer defending Michelle Hanson charged in death of Kaden Young

“It is too early to decide whether or not a change of venue is appropriate, but we are concerned that the media reports — at least initially — were lacking balance and fairness and how this could impact public opinion,” defence lawyer Marco Forte told The Banner.

“We are also aware that many people in and out of the local community have expressed strong opinions about Ms. Hanson’s guilt and innocence,” he added. “We will determine how best to deal with these realities and to ensure a fair trial as things proceed forward.”

Imo, it was an extremely odd decision by MH to leave home in the middle of the night, in the middle of winter with one of her children - have always wondered if Kaden was even alive when she left home with him that night.

The defence can add this question/opinion to the mix on a change of venue. Others in and outside the current jurisdiction will have the same question imo. No point in running.

Mother pleads guilty in death of 3-year-old son who drowned in Grand River in 2018
''The mother of a three-year-old boy who drowned after he was swept into the Grand River in 2018 has pleaded guilty in his death.

On Tuesday morning, Michelle Hanson pleaded guilty to criminal negligence in the operation of a motor vehicle causing death via video in an Orangeville courtroom.

“She’s admitting that she didn't do what a prudent driver would have done on that night,” Hanson’s lawyer Hal Mattson told CTV News Kitchener on Tuesday.''

''Hanson has two other children, who are currently not in her care, and is living with family in Newfoundland.

Mattson said she is undergoing weekly urinalysis tests to prove her sobriety in order to see her children in the future.

He said he believes that Hanson is on the right path to recovery.''
