Health Canada will add nine additional radiation monitor stations on the B.C. coast, despite the agency saying danger of harmful nuclear radiation from Japan is negligible.

Bret Stone's body was found approximately 6 km away from DR (in a straight line - a longer distance by back roads and trails), near the edge of Algonquin Park. AFAIK, no-one had seen him in the town and no-one in town recognized him. Is there any evidence that he was a) murdered and b) died in DR itself? I am not aware of any.

there is a thread going for BS here at WS, and people are still asking exactly where was BS's body found. You think you could indicate the location in the following map? Just as a reference I placed
( B ) on the map, only to have an idea of how far away is 6 km.

It would be awesome if you could do a screen shot of the map, and then mark the SPOT with an "X" otherwise, just let us know which of those small lakes is closer.

I will really appreciate it if you could pinpoint even an approximate location. The "official" sites state near Deep River (not Algonquin Park), so that's why we associate him with DR.
With regards to your second question, we don't know, other than that he was in good health prior to death, and AFAIK no cause of death has been released. I don't know if a perfectly healthy person can just drop dead like that, perhaps a heart attack? suicide maybe? We don't know....We do know however, that the OPP never discloses ALL their findings.

* Well tanned, sunburned face

I confess I didn't check the BS thread on WS, though I have looked at it in
the past. Perhaps he died of hypothermia (below freezing temperatures are
not necessary for that), or from too many diet/caffeine pills. One can only guess, given the lack of official information.

Martel-Cameron’s father-in-law, John Craig Cameron, 52, turned himself in to Ontario Provincial Police in Parry Sound a few hours after Martel-Cameron’s body was discovered last Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Dawn Downie, 47, said she learned her daughter had been shot and killed when two Hamilton police officers came to her door with the news at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

She had last seen her daughter about six weeks ago when the 27-year-old came to visit Downie and her husband, Jim Binkle, for the weekend.

Am trying to find a ski trail around, but no luck so far. Did the person who found him happen to mention the name of the ski trail? I know I'm pushing my luck

It is such a mystery! How did he get to that location? I guess we can safely assume he didn't drive since there was no vehicle found abandoned. What puzzles the most, is why didn't he have an ID? Who is Bret Stone?

sorry, it's me again

( 1 ) found a very good map of the Algonquin Provincial Park (area in green). When viewing in 300%, am able to locate Big Bass L on the yellow part, right hand side of map, a bit under Des Joaquims Power Dev. (Pembroke 59 Km).

So according to this map, none of the Bass Lakes nor the Heart Lake is part of the Algonquin Park; closest point would be Kellys Lake. Wish we could find a map showing roads and ski trails of the area in question.

You are right - the spot is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There is an extensive network of wilderness ski trails (maintained by volunteers) in the area, and the outhouse and cabin (which would have been locked) are beside one. Bret could only have reached that location on foot or possibly by ATV, since there is no real road access beyond the end of the Bass Lake Road, and that only goes as far as Sullivan Lake. On the satellite view you can see a cleared strip through the bush which is where the gas pipeline runs; there is also a railway line, now no longer in use. There are snowmobile trails in the winter, and some rough logging roads that would not be usable by ordinary vehicles. There are no nearby roads into or out of Algonquin Park either, although the boundary of the park is very close.

I can't imagine how he ended up there, unless he started off on one of the trails in a spirit of adventure and got very lost. That would be easy to do for someone who didn't know the area and didn't have a map. He was found quickly just by chance - the person who came across him was (if I recall correctly) out doing some trail clearing and went there to use the outhouse.

First of all, no... you got it COMPLETELY wrong.

MICHELLE was supposed to be working March break for AECL, her and Rick both worked there. ( rick is her husband, or "ex" though im not sure they got as far as filing divorce papers )

Rick went to P.S with his 2 children (kyleigh and william) to visit with family ( Rick's parents - Craig and Sandra ) on the FRIDAY at the beginning of March Break, he intended to stay the whole week and go back sunday.

Rick and Michelle were not living together at the time and Rick had temp custody of the children.

They were in the midst of a custody battle in which Michelle (after ditching rick with the 2 kids and leaving to be with her new partner ) decided that suddenly she wanted full custody, and the matrimonial home too as I recall.

Whether or not there was a heated discussion monday evening with his parents or not that sparked the anger in Craig ( rick's father ) has not been noted, but sometime between monday evening and tuesday morning, he had driven 4 hours to deep river and shot and killed Michelle.

He had court on the 22nd in which happened to be the same day as Michelle's funeral, he was remanded to next thursday ( march 31 ) for a vid appearance from the jail. He entered the court room in restraints and did not say a word, he has not obtained legal counsel, and is NOT disputing the charges.

No wonder it didn't make sense that the MIL also worked at AECL, considering the FIL lived in PS. Thank you for clarifying that it was Michelle who worked there.

Very tragic. I feel so sad for those children and Michelle's family I have no personal experience with divorces or separations, but I'm sure all could have easily been solved by the courts, now those children will grow up without their Mother!

AECL ordered to review safety

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) issued orders to all of its major licence holders - including AECL, Ontario Power Generation, New Brunswick Power and Bruce Power - to prepare a review by April 29.

The orders were issued last Thursday by Ramzi Jammal, chief regulatory operations officer for the CNSC.

In a letter to Hank Drumhiller, vice-president and chief nuclear officer for AECL, Jammal says the review must look at the initial “lessons learned” from the earthquake in Japan and re-examine the “safety cases” for Canada's nuclear facilities, “in particular the underlying defence in depth concept.”

The review should focus on threats from “external hazards such as seismic, flooding, fire and extreme weather events,” the licence holders' plans for “prevention and mitigation of severe accidents” and their overall emergency preparedness.

The review must also report on plans for “short-term and long-term measures to address any significant gaps.”

Max, at risk of getting laughed at, I'll give you my take on things. Let me first say that I'm very ignorant about this issue, and am not reading about it because it depresses me way too much.
OK, so here it goes:
IMHO, they poured cement on Chernobyl because there had already been a huge explosion, whilst in Japan's case the rods filled with uranium pellets are still intact and creating heat. They are cooling it with water to prevent an explosion like in Chernobyl. So if they instead pour cement (even if it is fast-drying cement), those rods are still going to be generating heat, and it will get warmer, and warmer, and WARMER and eventually it will EXPLODE, launching not only radioactive steam, smoke, etc, but also broken pieces of cement.
OK, you can all stop laughing at me now .... hope someone who knows this stuff will come in here and tell how far off we are.
What I posted above is all just from my imagination, I have not read anything of that sort anywhere, just my own crazy conclusions :crazy:

As I read each day's reports of the widening radiation in the air and ocean, I'm haunted by thoughts of Lachlan's photographing all things beautiful...."as if there would never be another Spring....".
