CBC News
The Canadian government plans to spend $11.7 billion on science and technology in 2010-11, it announced Wednesday.

The government said that $5.9 billion will be allocated to departments and agencies within the federal government while other sectors will receive $5.8 billion. These sectors include higher education, business and non-profit and foreign groups.

The plans include spending $7.4 billion on research and development and $4.3 billion on gathering and synthesizing data, information services, museum services, policy studies and education.

Three-quarters of the government's proposed spending will be directed to natural sciences and one-quarter toward social sciences and humanities.

During the 2010-11 period, it is expected that just under 40,000 full-time employees will be involved in science and technology activities, with 11,874 support staff and 9,280 employees engaged in technical endeavours.

Sillybilly, with all the excitement of today, I hope you wont forget to water your flowers. You got the seeds you ordered right? Let us know how they are growing, or if you still haven't planted them?

Sorry for the delay in responding Hazel ... as you know, my world has been a bit topsy-turvey these days.

Yes, I received the seeds, but haven't planted them yet. I was torn between planting in the fall or waiting until next spring when I will probably be relocated. My biggest issue was that the new homeowners may not place as much importance on the very special significance, so i am taking LC's gnome memorial flowers with me.

Even the L and C in "lychnis" reminds me of Lachlan. Not that any of us need anything to remind us of him, but they will invoke lovely thoughts every time I see them ... and for a long time, they will be with someone who cares. Yup !!

Do you think that a person who collects photographs of other people's personal ID, including such things as passports, could have taken an interest in Lachlan's passport, which was photographed by Lachlan and posted on his personal website?

Do you think that a victim who left personal ID behind at home and vanished into thin air, later to be found dead, could have met the same fate as Lachlan?

Not sure why photographs of personal ID would be more important than the actual items, which were left behind....

Sorry, four in a row.

Does anyone know the color/material of Lachlan's "spare torch"? Being a safety-conscious person, I wonder if it was red or yellow? Also, I'm wondering if he would have preferred a metal one, due to his aversion to nano- and the possibility that some torches might contain nano-particles.

Same here. I've also been thinking of burned evidence after being photographed and uploaded.

Summer, in response to your question: "Not sure why photographs of personal ID would be more important than the actual items, which were left behind.... " just a wild guess: actual items take up space. I still don't know WHY he wanted those IDs, maybe just a way of getting their names instead of writing that info down on paper. From the interview, seems his handwriting is a bit illegible.

So all B&Es ended Nov. 2009 and next assault was Jan. 28? need to continue reading, but had to skip lots of yesterday's, it was just too much to process all at once :(

Summer, thanks for the "cane" and "40 years from now" I really needed that laugh!

I think most of the faithful crew here are also posting on the OPP RW thread, so you're up on all the particulars there.

Did anyone pick up on that segment of the Det. Smyth interview with RW in which Smyth reminded RW that they had investigated the times he used his "swipe card" to clock in and out at the Trenton base?

Sure wish we could find out if he clocked in on Jan 18th and 19th, and if so, the specific times. He had the photo op with McKay and Gen'l. N on the 17th. Just wondering if maybe he had an attack of that "stomach flu" on the 18th or 19th. Don't know of any way we can find out.

What about all those photos he took of life insurance policies?

I wonder what will happen if the evidence, including videos and photographs, are destroyed. Seems to me a foolhardy thing to do, in the event that other crimes might be discovered down the road. There may be others linked to this man.

If the Crown choses not to pursue DO status, that pscyhological analysis that IMO is so necessary to learn the full extent of what has gone one will never happen. Is the Crown wearing blinders, or something? See previous paragraph.

I totally agree, summer. For several reasons I'm against destroying evidence, especially the computer and memory sticks. I've learned myself that at first reading that I totally missed important bits.

To think that RW's crimes only began in 2007 is just not believable, IMO. They may be destroying valuable evidence of earlier crimes by RW.

I think his case should be kept intact and studied by students of psychology. How else will the cause(s) and prognosis of such mental and psychological wreckage ever be discovered?

Summer, I apologize for not "seeing" the importance of the insurance policies before. I have some seeds of ideas now, so could you please provide the link to the article that specifically lists that?

There are ways that those of criminal minds can profit big time by taking out life ins policies on someone they know is going to be snuffed. That happened on 9/11.

I personally am all for destroying those videos and photographs; wouldn't want them to fall into the wrong hands. If those are kept, who knows if copies will not be made during the years? We all know there is a big market for that kind of movies :furious:

I can't help but wonder if there are more HDs and/or memory sticks hidden somewhere else, containing evidence of earlier crimes. IIRC, they only found 2 HDs and those memory sticks are so small! Did he have a fitness membership in a Gym? How about a locker in one of the Recreation facilities, with hockey arenas, pools, and so much more?

Poll : Should the video and photographs Col. Russell Williams took of his victims be destroyed after they're no longer required as evidence?

So far:
Yes 60.87% (1,615 votes)
No 32.11% (852 votes)
I'm not sure 7.01% (186 votes)
Total Votes: 2,653

Video clip - mark 4:30 - Tim Dawson's (Lawyer in the Bernardo case) opinion: victims' families should obtain a court order to have the actual videos and photographs destroyed after they're no longer needed as evidence.

apologies for three posts in a row

No idea if it is a serious site, but I and others have come across it at various times when sleuthing and no, I did not know about the Jb. pictures and reopening of investigation, maybe I should have another look. Not really sure what to make of this site.

RW's handwritting; worse than a doctor's

I read on RW's thread that he signed as RW on some and as RS on others, but I can only see RW and Russ. Are there more letters?

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/the-letters-col-williams-wrote-to-his-victims-and-his-wife/article1765613/

The thing I noticed about his letters is that only on the one to MEH can you actually read his name. Is his obvious concern for her because he truly loves her is it because caring for his wife is something that makes him appear normal?
