I came here to respond to Max's post of yesterday about the blue recycling box, but that post has disappeared. I found my old post from Thread #4, Page 1, post # 17. It pertains to one of the few scraps of real evidence we have in Lachlan's case, so I want it to be brought forward so current and future readers can know of it.

I went back to the subject of Lachlan's blue recycling box having been put out when the 19th Jan was not "blue box day". I found the recycling schedule for 2009 for Deep River and using a 2010 calendar figured that the blue box days for Jan were Tuesday,12th and Wed, 13th and 26th and 27th. East DR is on Tuesdays and West DR is on Wednesdays.

http://town.deepriver.on.ca/documents/2009.recycling.pdf

In DR, recycle days are only every other week and the 19th was not blue box day.

I also checked schedule for Petawawa and blue box day there is Wed, Thurs, Fri every other week.

I worked back from the calendar for Petawawa shown here:

http://www.ovwrc.com/documents/Petawawa2010-2011.pdf

Then I checked the schedule for Tweedexcerpt):

View Waste Collection Schedule for TweedBancroftBellevilleCentre HastingsMadoc TownshipMarmora & LakePrince Edward CountyQuinte WestStirling-RawdonTyendinaga Tweed Waste Collection Schedule
Recycling/Garbage Collection Schedule
All areas: Friday

So, in Tweed it appears that every Friday is collection for both garbage and recycling.

So, did some neat freak see the overflowing blue box and being sure to get things just right, put out the blue box thinking every collection day in Deep River was for both garbage and recyclables?

<snip>

To add to your thought dd2, garbage is collected weekly in the City of Ottawa, with recyclables being collected weekly, alternating with black box one week and blue box the next.

Using the search tool found for the City of Ottawa at:

http://ottawa.ca/cgi-bin/gc/gc.pl?lang=en&street=Edison+Avenue

results for 473 Edison indicate Calendar A which shows the week of January 18, 2010 was blue box week:

:woohoo: WOW!! Great work, SB!!

As some of us understand, we must give consideration to many different scenarios that could have occurred. It is true that tact and sensitivity must be employed when presenting those possibilities publicly, but if justice is to be served present them we must.

Many of us are not privileged to know or understand the extent of Lachlan's achievements or the benefits to mankind that resulted from them. We do know from reading his website that he was outstanding as a human being, that he shared freely, often at his own expense, all that he had worked diligently to learn; that he gave generously of his material worth to promote peace in the world and to relieve suffering.

In my opinion, he deserves more and better from us that a few copy/pasted articles designed from the beginning to lead readers to conclude that he was the victim of a tragic accident.

From me he will get more, and the best that my open mind is capable of investigating.

I'm sure Lachlan is in their thoughts every single day, and they will be missing him terribly during what is supposed to be a joyous time of year. May they be blessed with their beautiful memories of this dear man. Lachlan didn't just string up his Christmas lights last year ... he shed light in many directions throughout his entire life and that light shines on in the hearts of those who knew him, and even in the hearts of strangers who wish they had the same honour.

EXCLUSIVE: Entrepreneur mounts 11th-hour bid for AECL's Candu reactor unit
By Andrew Mayeda, Postmedia News December 14, 2010

OTTAWA — A former aviation-industry executive has submitted an 11th-hour bid to acquire the Candu unit of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., saying he believes the Crown corporation's nuclear reactors still have a market in Canada and around the world.

The offer put together by Canadian entrepreneur Andrew Day is the only bid thus far focused solely on building and marketing new Candu reactors, whose technological roots track back more than six decades.

This news item tells of a man who fell into an icy creek and survived.Oh, how we all wish that the same happened for Lachlan, but is was interesting to learn how this man got out.

B.C. man's harrowing escape from icy prison.
Thanks dotr. This other 41 year old was sadly not so lucky :(

When I read the comment made by sir Steve Oh (scroll all the way down), and all the stuff he recommends to have in ones car, couldn't help but think of Lachlan :(

I hope anyone planning to stargaze anywhere near water, remembers to bring a flashlight!

"It's a rarity: lunar eclipse to occur on the same day as winter solstice"

It's something that doesn't happen very often. NASA says the last time it occurred was in 1638 -- 372 years ago.

During a total eclipse, the moon is completely covered by the Earth's shadow.

Society president Mary Lou Whitehorne said the eclipse was to begin at 1:33 a.m. EST Tuesday with the Earth's shadow appearing as a dark-red bite at the edge of the lunar disc.

MONTREAL – The mysterious disappearance of a 27-year-old Montreal man turned into a tragic and equally mysterious death Tuesday.

Matthew Besner’s body was recovered by police on the banks of the Lachine Canal near Old Montreal – not even two kilometres from where he vanished in the early hours of Sunday morning.

To the families who will spend the holidays without their loved ones, may you have quiet moments of reflection to cherish the memory of all the beautiful times you shared. When I think of the Christmas Spirit, I think of your loved ones being with you in spirit, wishing you comfort, love, joy and friendship ... true gifts we are reminded of at a very special time of year.

"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" was written by Longfellow following the death of his wife and after his son had been wounded in war. Whether we believe in a God or simply a universal Good, the words from the final refrains of the carol are meaningful:

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep.
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep!
The wrong shall fail,
The right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men!"

Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings to all my WS friends.

Aviation authorities are not confirming the details of a leaked flight plan for Dec. 24, but did say the pilot is "a very jolly fellow."

The flight plant and itinerary made its way into inboxes in newsrooms across the country Wednesday and shows that a pilot known as Capt. S. Claus is planning to fly from the North Pole on Friday.

“All we can confirm is that a sleigh-like aircraft powered by nine flying reindeer will be departing the North Pole on Christmas Eve to deliver packages all around the world. That could be anyone,” a spokesman for NAV Canada, the civil air navigation services provider, said in a release.

Other details from the flight plan indicate the flight will last 24 hours, there are "many" destinations, the sled is bright red and the route includes the "homes of all the nice children in the world."

Perhaps completely unrelated, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defence Command) will be tracking Santa Claus on Friday. Those wanting to watch Santa's journey can log on to Twitter, Facebook, Google Maps or Google Earth.

And Transport Canada has cleared Santa for flight on Christmas Eve.

"Transport Canada is pleased to announce that Santa has passed all his required pre-flight tests and is ready to make his deliveries again this year," the agency said in a release.

Rideau Canal skateway may open soon

Updated: Tue Dec. 28 2010 3:26:52 PM
NCC workers took core samples of ice from the Rideau Canal Tuesday and found that the ice is the required 20 centimetres of thickness for crews to get out, plow and flood the canal.

The opening of the canal might be delayed though with warmer temperatures forecasted for the end of the week.

Last year the canal didn't open until January 14.

Thanks, Hazel. I think that is an important observation. Has anyone heard of the ice conditions at Deep River? Are the fishing huts out? Pick-up trucks and such like?

I've been sniffing and digging in dark places and haven't much time to read the daily news, so will depend on you folks to post anything new.
