Max, I was thinking about Lachlan (and his family) all week and it was the first thing on my mind this morning.So many things that I read and observe have been enhanced and influenced by Lachlan's website and our "sleuthing" of matters usually out of my comfort level.
This really was a special guy, how else to explain the almost magical effect he has had on us all?! If only, if only Lachlan knew how we (strangers ourselves), had ours arms wrapped around him for the whole time that he was missing.If we could bend time and space, would he somehow feel our thoughts of today, that balmy night, a year ago ?
Still here for you Mr Cranswick, all the best to your loving family...

I want to share a phrase that someone who knew Lachlan told me some time ago, and it's stuck in my mind:

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says he still wants to buy two nuclear reactors from Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., but can't because the federal Conservatives are standing in the way.

He says the province's efforts to move ahead with the purchase have been stymied by Ottawa's decision nearly two years ago to put AECL's nuclear reactor business up for sale

Not surprisingly, Lachlan had connections to universities far and wide. He had connections to McMaster via his Bertrand Russell references (the Bertrand Russell Archives are at McMaster), and he collaborated with John Greedan of McMaster, i.e :

Most of us in this thread are aware of the extensive Baden-Powell family history on Lachlan's site. Much of the genealogy content is attributed to Robin Baden-Clay, also referred to as simply Robin Clay. In the Audrey Gleave case (McMaster, former physics teacher), her handyman PK discovered her body. For the record, LE stated very quickly that he was ruled out in AG's case. He is however a McMaster student/biomedical/research/teaching assistant, and he has a once-removed connection to Robin Clay through Adam Baden-Clay (great-grandson of Lord Baden-Powell). Reference to Adam B-C was on LC's site a couple of days ago .. but can't find it today.

The woman advised police she was an employee of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited at Chalk River Laboratories. She recounted that Mr. Stanikzy arrived in Canada in November, 2009 and lived with his brother and sister-in-law in Toronto for six months. She moved with him to Pembroke when she was hired by AECL.

She alleged the defendant asked her to obtain explosive materials so he could detonate an explosive device at CFB Petawawa. According to the allegation, he told her he wanted to wound or kill 30 to 100 people at CFB Petawawa.

I made a post over in Audrey Gleave's thread that may interest some who are still sleuthing here in LC's thread and making comparisons to Audrey's background and interests. The post is regarding Audrey's nickname "Baryon" and an ftp site called baryon... that links to a page of Lachlan's (seems to be from earlier days, as the message regarding his disappearance is not shown at the top):

Because the baryon subdirectory is "Irix", i googled +irix +cranswick, and something weird comes up ... an archive of February 2010 that contains a message from LC under Feb 18. I can only think that someone has done a cut & paste of an old message of LC's

ETA: So, bumbling ahead, I googled Audrey's maiden name Doveika and found Doveika referenced in a IAEA final report on a research project titled "Characterization of ceramics and semiconductors using nuclear techniques"

Update on John P. Wheeler III case per Delaware Online, dated Friday, 01/29/2011:

"....Homicide victim John P. Wheeler III, a former Pentagon official and presidential aide whose body was discovered Dec. 31 in a Wilmington landfill, was beaten to death in an assault, the Delaware Medical Examiner's Office announced Friday.

The official cause of Wheeler's death was "blunt-force trauma," agency spokesman Karl Kanefsky said about a case that has drawn worldwide media coverage. Kanefsky would not say which part of Wheeler's body sustained the lethal blows.

Police reiterated Friday that the case remains under investigation but acknowledge they cannot fill in critical gaps in the mystery and don't have any suspects. ...."
