Good point Carbuff,it might explain the "fairly worn" footwear and the sunburn.
Sunburn due to the acne medication, maybe?

While looking at Raymond Carey and Corey White, I noticed something about our UID that probably doesn't have much significance, but I hadn't noticed it before: he parts his hair on the left. Nothing terribly unusual about that, but Carey and White and most of the other possibles with similar hairstyles brush their hair forward from the back, without a part. This is not something a guy usually changes.
Also, those coated lenses? Very popular with people who work in the computer industry. It cuts down screen glare when you're working under fluorescent lights.
One person mentioned way back in this thread who went missing worked in computer security, I believe. I wonder if his company ever sent him to contract work at military bases, such as Petawawa.

Gelb was my leading candidate, but looking at the hair, now I'm not so sure. Gelb has thick curly hair; I don't think you could get it to come out like that short sparse cut the dead man wears.
I can't tell from the post-mortem photos where this UID parted his hair. It just looks mussed to me, with no obvious part.

ITA dotr, good find and IMO, this guy Raymond Carey could be a match. Here is someone who does not match the height, but has some similarity in other details.

Ding, ding, ding! Dotr, it's a match! Thanks to Hazel, too, for the different perspectives.
Um, how about that bar where he worked?
According to a Montreal tourist website, that club specializes in "full contact lap dances." Cheap. Though not a cheap club, apparently.
The only thing I really don't like about Raymond Carey as a match is the 7-month time lag between January and September. That would also be a lot of weight to lose in the interim, but not impossible. The height difference is weird, too, considering that the UID must have been found just hours after his death. The slight difference in jowls and face shape could be explained by the weight loss.
So what might have happened? He disappears from the club, someone drives him to the Laurentian Hills area or at least drives his vehicle back to Montreal. And then what? I doubt he lived outside in a tent for 7 months. So why didn't he leave an empty apartment/room behind (for a landlord to complain about) or if he was staying with someone else, why weren't they looking for him?
If they got it off his driver's license, height and weight could be way off.
The seven-month gap doesn't bother me. Carey seems to have left Montreal just ahead of those big spring 2001 drug busts, which might well mean he was lying low for a while. And if he was lying low at a gang member's place, or something like that, the owner might well have been afraid to go to the police when he turned up missing.
For that matter, if they were walking together, that would give the other guy motivation to just leave and take the car and the UID's wallet.
Thank you for your email.
This information will be passed on to the investigating officers.
Once again, thank you for your time and your interest in this case.

It sure looks like the same guy to me. The height discrepancy could easily be the result of an error on one side or the other.
Their chins are identical. Their right ears are shaped very similarly, and any differences that I see could be attributed to camera angle differences.
And I don't think that the UID had jowels like that when he was alive.
I wish Raymond's photo was a little clearer. I see a mole just above the UID's left eyebrow, at the vertical plane of the iris of his eye, and Raymond might have a similar mole in the same location. His photo is not focused enough to be sure though.
I don't think the glasses in the two photos are the same pair. The bridges don't look quite the same, although they are certainly the same style.
