CANADA Canada - Leah Sousa, 13, Cumberland Beach, Ont, 1 Sept 1990

I am interested to know if anyone here has any theories as to what might have happened with Leah’s case. I am thinking that there may be a good chance that the person who killed Leah has also killed someone else. There are so many unsolved cases across Ontario, I am wondering if anyone else believes this perp has struck before or since?

I wonder where Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were at the time. The victim targeted, trolling area, and time frame are right up their alley. If I were LE I would be remiss to not check them out. MOO

Lengthy article.

A lot is known about Leah Sousa’s killer — except who he is | The Star
“This still ranks as one of the most brutal murders I saw during 15 years profiling with police in Ontario,” Van Allen said in an interview.''

''Van Allen believes the killer was someone from the area and that he arrived alone that night.
“This is all within the capability of one offender,” Van Allen says.
“This is strong, private and personal.”
The killer brought a metal tool to break a window panel on a door.
He had likely broken into homes many times before.
He kept the metal tool with him once he stepped inside.
He arrived at the cottage that night with a plan.
“His focus was the expression of sexual violence,” Van Allen says''

''This was someone with average to subpar intelligence and negligible skills who was likely raised with harsh discipline.
It was totally in character that he was consumed with anger and devoid of empathy when he entered the cottage in the dark of night.
“That’s who he is,” Van Allen says. “That’s who he formed into.”

''Van Allen suggests the intruder arrived during a point of personal crisis.
Did he recently have a fight with someone? Did he feel particularly humiliated or ridiculed? He had likely been humiliated and ridiculed many times before, but it still stung.''
''Leah was dragged from the couch, down three steps and out the back door to the yard and repeatedly assaulted.''

''There was plenty of blood at the crime scene. In it was a shoe print. It was a size nine or 10 Nike all leather court or tennis shoe.''

Apparently the main suspect has disappeared. Found nothing on him.

First time poster and am wondering how there isn’t DNA when Leah was raped? Any ideas?

Glad you posted and bumped up the thread!
If there was no DNA on/in Leah, maybe she was assaulted with an object, or the killer was drunk or something and could not complete the rape? speculation, imo.

"No matter how insignificant a piece of information may appear, it may lead us to the clues we need," said Pritchard, adding, "Nothing is insignificant."

In addition to their renewed focus on the murder, Pritchard said new forensic testing capabilities are also offering police an opportunity to test trace amounts of evidence left at the scene a long time ago.

Although traditional nuclear DNA might not be available, he said, mitochondrial DNA – a very small yet prominent organelle within a cell – is now capable of being tested for clues to its owner. Recently, a sample of the mitochondrial DNA was sent to a laboratory in Pennsylvania for additional testing

Cindy Halliday - 17 yrs- murdered Apr 21, 1991 Elmvale (40 min from Cumberland Beach)
Joanne Foley- 22 yrs- missing May 1989- Port McNichol (45 min from Cumberland Beach)
Kelly Coleman -34yrs- missing August 2011- Nottawa(1 hr from Cumberland Beach)

Lisa Leona Maas- 22- missin July 17, 1988- Owen Sound ( much further 2 hrs from Cumberland Beach)
Lois Mare Hanna- 25 yrs- missing July 3, 1988- Kincardine ( much further 2.5 hrs from Cumberland Beach)
Mistie Nicole Murray - 16 yrs- missing May 31, 1995- Goderich ( much further 3 hrs from Cumberland Beach)

Despite the time span in years, this potential killer could have a camper/trailer or rented cottages and spent his summers near the water.
Interesting that the night they return to the cottage they are bludgeoned. The killer/killers must have known their movements. And bizarre no one heard anything. Who did the baby belong to? If the father killed the child, why did he leave the child behind? Or did he have a conscience? Sounds like a murder by a very angry person who was physically able to overcome a woman and child
No vag swab done?
