Henneberry's old roommate speaks

Krystina Latham, 20, knew both Henneberry and Saunders.

In the summer of 2012, Latham said, she and Henneberry lived together for a few months in a hotel room. She wouldn’t go into detail about why she and Henneberry were living in a hotel, but said those were “rough times.”

“I used to live with her, Victoria, I used to hang out with at one time. Then she ran away and never came back."

Coincidentally, Latham now lives in the Cowie Hill apartment building where Saunders lived, and where police believe she died.

Sorry to generalize but when I think of young girls living in a hotel it makes me think they were prostituting themselves. It's also possible they weren't doing that. JMO

So is the whole kijiji thing BS? Would someone live as roommates with people that they just met on kijiji?

I can't see why not. If someone is renting a two bedroom place and one roommate moves out, why not advertise for a new roommate with an online ads. She probably thought that she would be spending more time at her boyfriend's place, but it also sounds like she might have had to pay rent at the boyfriend's place ... maybe I'm reading between the lines.

Sounds to me like Loretta was a victim of her own naivete. I don't mean it in a bad way (and it's certainly not her fault), she was just too trusting of people that turned out to be evil. Seems to me that Victoria exhibits sociopathic behavior. It seems she's manipulated friends in the past, which is a red flag for sociopathic behavior.

Given the expression on Victoria's face after arriving in Halifax, I think it's fair to say that she's not feeling any form of remorse or regret for her actions.

I do think that Loretta was inexperienced, or naive, in terms of renting. Clearly she didn't ask for references, job history, damage deposit and rent cheques. It looks like she was manipulated into letting them move in after receiving a sad story and a promise to pay later. As soon as they had the keys, it looks like Victoria had a sense of entitlement.

Absolutely - I have found 4 or 5 roommates throughout the duration my University career online. I will do a google/Facebook search on them and meet up with them in person before moving them in. Almost everyone I know has done this, it's not uncommon.

OK, I guess I've had to know my roommates for a bit before sharing a living space together.

Well that would definitely be ideal haha I'm in Toronto, whenever I've had to look for roommates they would generally be students around my age, too :) I was never really scared or concerned by it here because there were so many applicants for me to choose from.

I've had friends in Halifax who had a really hard time finding subleters if they went away for the summer between school years. One friend's sublet moved out unexpectedly two months early and stole some of her furniture. I feel like the renting market is a different world there. A lot more scarce and I feel that Loretta might not have had many options when choosing her roommates.

IMO Loretta likely faced additional difficulties since Cowie Hill/Spryfield is neither close to the universities nor a desirable neighbourhood for students. It's one of the seedier areas of Halifax.

Being from a rural area may play a factor in being more trusting (she was from NFLD) as well as being young and not being able to check people through friends, etc. My heart just breaks...

After reading the FB posts Victoria made and seeing that they actually did live together at some point , I think she likely knew full well what Loretta was writing about and decided it was their was to get back at her for something or because VH was jealous and be assured of media attention etc. She knew it would attract attention for someone writing a paper like that to go missing and that it would garner widespread media coverage. I still think that a large part of the motive behind this was to become a modern day " Bonnie n Clyde" sort of character. Hence the FB name change . Two twisted people wanting their 15 minutes.

This whole situation seems to be over jealousy and entitlement. Sad that a beautiful young woman lost her life over something so trivial.:tantrum:

I don't think there is anything new here, but the video is a good recap of everything.

The police Supt stated today that they were actual roommates for at least a month. ( Rick Grant has it in his Tweets )
I agree with you on the notoriety aspect too.

I see that all reports are calling the perps Loretta's roommates now. These roommates likely knew about Loretta's thesis. IMO, Victoria did this to gain notoriety as well as get some cash and Loretta's car. Now I'm also worried that there was a sexual assault added to all of this. JMO

Victoria Love mentioned that she was a "university student" and therefore important and above all the riff raff several times in her "thedirty" comments (if it's really her replying). So maybe she WAS jealous of this person who was doing what Victoria had seemed to hold in high regard.

Second, this is a long shot, but your comment reminded me that Bonnie n Clyde was just on TV in a serial version, wasn't it? It's a stretch, but who knows...maybe they saw it, fancied themselves in this role, what with the "cross country getaway in stolen car" thing. If you look up the movie plot (i've forgotten the story except the main points) it talks of a rivalry between Bonnie and another female.

Do you hv Rick Grant's Twitter handle? I tried to look him up but didn't get the right results. Thanks!

I agree this is possible. I wonder how well young people know Bonnie and Clyde. I can think of a few other films that are kind of classic (but more recent) in this genre and I wonder if they saw them--Badlands or Natural Born Killers...
