At this stage we are looking at one suspect responsible travelling around the region, or at least two separate, unassociated suspects. IMO

Either way, without stirring too much hysteria I hope everyone in the region is exercising extreme caution on the highways and suggesting the same to friends / family / colleagues.

Link to the black beard please..otherwise it is gossip. I have not read anything about a man with a black beard!

With the greatest respect, if you choose to join a thread, which is only in its infancy, please don't make comments like this when it's more than obvious you haven't read every page.

another update and breakthrough
Mystery bearded man seen arguing on Highway 37 with Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese before murders
A mystery bearded man was seen arguing on the Canadian highway with Australian Lucas Fowler and his girlfriend before they were brutally murdered

Killer ‘still on the loose’ with headstart

A witness had come forward to say she saw a mystery bearded man in a heated exchange with Aussie tourist Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chynna Deese before their murders.

The witness told Channel 9 the man was arguing with the couple while his vehicle was parked down the road on the Canadian highway where the couple was stopped.

Apologies for quoting my own post, but I replied to the mystery bearded man post with the following just in case anyone else missed it.

The story about the bearded man is true.

Channel 9 News have reported the story and I've transcribed it:

A roadworker (Trevor Pierre) interviewed at the side of the road said, “I don’t know how anybody could live with themselves after doing what I saw”.

After tourists raised the alarm roadworker and paramedic Trevor Pierre found the bodies lying near their van. It had a smashed back right window and the right doors were left open.

TP: In the ditch was a lady first, young lady, and maybe 5 metres behind was the gentleman. He had no shoes. The young lady had one.

Equally disturbing he says was the victims’ identical positions in the dirt.

TP: You see this young, beautiful lady laying there. That’s (ui) into my mind.

The night before, Alandra Hull, who also works on the regions roads claims she saw a bearded man confronting the pair on the highway.

AH: To me he kind of looked frustrated or something. Like, he was just kind of standing like this. [She spreads her arms with palms upturned], like, just looking at them.

Alandra says the couple’s van was pulled over in an area like this one along the Alaska Highway with Lucas and Chynna standing beside it. She says they were talking to a man who was standing in the middle of the highway with his own car parked down the road, like he walked towards them. She recalls the couple looked bothered. Alandra has told police what she saw. They’ve asked her to help a sketch artist with a composite of the mystery man.

AH: If you just get a bad feeling – and that’s what I had – you just don’t stop.

You had a bad feeling?

AH: I did.

So much depends on how the man at the rest area near Dease Lake died. If he was shot, that is where it would be more than coincidence. Police know, of course, but have chosen not to say.

With all due respect..i have read all the posts since the beginning. My query was related to the description of a BLACk beard. Perhaps you may have not read all the post related to a few of us questioning a black beard...I am aware the mystery man had a beard but I have never read that it was BLACK. <modsnip>

I doubt that the teens are on a murderous rampage. I think they are victims as well.

I think it's too coincidental that 2 young travelling victims are found shot and unrecognizable on Monday after being seen on Sunday afternoon, and another young victim is found unrecognizable on Friday. Two other young men are missing and their vehicle is found burning on Friday after being last seen on Thursday afternoon. All of the victims are in the same general remote area.

There are not a lot of roads to take in the area, and there's a direct route between the two scenes.

BBM. I don't recall seeing or hearing the unidentified man near Dease Lake characterized as "young". Is there a source? TIA.

it would seem not, footage shot on the highway over the last few days has shown people engaging in risk taking activities like hitchhiking

Please see Betty P’s post #510, she has the video link referenced there.

I withdrew the reference to "black" after re-checking the link. Some remarks from the woman highway worker were edited out of the video, as were some remarks by the man in describing the wounds of Chynna. I'm assuming LE requested these changes, possibly of concern that the killer might alter his appearance? IDK

Probably best to give this topic a rest for now. We'll see what develops later, when they come out with a sketch of the suspect. That was also a quote from the woman highway worker, in case they edit that out as well. She is working with a sketch artist.

Canadian police asked Hull to give a statement and to work with a sketch artist to compile an image of the man.

am deeply grateful to all the contributors , am following this horror on Sydney time, I didn't know BC had 2 times zones, plus summer time, ( do I add or subtract?)…

Some terrific links have been put up on this thread, stuff that here in Sydney I would never think of, although the 9 coverage is reasonable, it still takes a local on the ground to flesh out the event.

These missing teenagers, neither of whom looks like a ratbag , or a fugitive, I am hoping earnestly that they are safe, and merely lost, and not part of this Lucas and Chynna tragedy.

Again, thanks for the updates and links and theories and that fabulous solid Canadian perspective.

just went back to the video with the road worker and what she said about the arm gesture, id never actually watched the video just read the transcript

what she is describing really does sound like the guy is saying something like look at the road or why something is on the road, possibly the van that broke down, maybe people are right about him being frustrated with the position maybe he almost hit them

but that is kinda what it sounds like from her interview, i also don't blame her for stopping, she is another female alone best to call it in and deal with it that way

Australian here too... trying to follow this story from country Qld without TV (long story), and having all kinds of trouble getting NBN put on. A 3G hotspot is about my only connection to the outside world right now. So I apologise in advance if I post something about this story that someone else just has too... I can't even refresh the screen fast enough to keep up.

PingTheRouter... feel free to PM me if there is a major breakthrough. I might see that faster than anything else. Even if it just says "update, check thread now". I am just hanging out to see that the person(s) who did this has been found.

I think it's crazy(but has to be a total coincidence) that Chynna's last name is Deese and the boys are missing from Dease lake.
I noticed that a while ago. Ironic for sure.

It sure does. He drove his vehicle passed them and parked it, walked back to argue with them, apparently. Looks like a "What the h*ll are you thinking" gesture. This was still daylight correct?

If they angered him more by not agreeing with him, or not taking him seriously, or just because he's the kind of person who will kill someone over a traffic issue. whose to say he didn't come back later in the dark, break in the window and attack them. I feel too that they're caught off guard, sleeping perhaps or at least inside the van relaxing. Shoes off, etc. Maybe she grabbed one shoe when trying to flee. Less chance of someone driving by and seeing what was happening.

Also, if he's now aware of a witness to him and his vehicle, he may have gone off grid or even disposed of his car. Could this lead to a need for another car and another death on highway 37? All my opinions
