Well I’m still confused - while I know the age of majority is 19 in the province of BC, according to this the BC Youth Criminal Justice Act (often referred to as the Young Offenders Act) is applicable only to 12 to 17 year olds.

Turning 18
In British Columbia, youth accused of committing a crime while they were between 12 and 17 are dealt with under the YCJA. Even if the youth turns 18 before their trial or sentencing, they will still be tried or may be sentenced as a youth under the YCJA. When a crime is very serious or the judge decides a youth needs to be in an adult correctional facility, a judge may decide to sentence the youth as an adult.

Yes you’re right, my apologies. I’m suffering from detail overload!
No problem! There's a lot happening here. I also need to retract my "Swiss person who worked on the ranch" and correct that to "owned." The guy had a ranch in Alberta but sold it in 2015 and moved to BC. The plates are definitely out of date and it shouldn't have been on the road.

If you look closely at the eyes etc behind the mask there is a resemblance to BS. I believe the guy. JMO

There are probably 100 pictures of me in a gas mask. I used to be a <modsnip> raver-goth. I don't see how "maybe that's apicture of him in a gas mask" confirms the story that Breyer sent these three pictures himself.

Something that has not even been hinted at, and something I would like to know , as well. One was an motherless boy, living with his gran, but the other, Kam... nada, zip , zero, ….

On Tuesday, Keith McLeod, Kam’s father, pleaded for privacy as the family comes to terms with what is happening.

“This is what I do know — Kam is a kind, considerate, caring young man [who] always has been concerned about other people’s feelings,” he wrote.

Who are Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky? What we know about the suspects in northern B.C. deaths

ETA: It's often said you're as healthy as the company you keep.

The teens have been describes as friends since primary school, and most likely co-dependent loners. Both even sought night shift jobs together at Walmart in advance of this violent journey. I have no reason to doubt they believe themselves ride and die mates.

Since there has been no reports of any other missing vehicle, they are probably still near Gillam.

The "Sundance Camp" in Google Maps is closest to the burnt RAV4. There are other camps within hiking range.

RCMP guys are probably checking all of them, and the generator sites and substations too.

I personally don't think they are heading to Ontario. Churchill by train is more likely, as there are occasional ships at the port.

I feel like we know a lot about Bryer, partly due to his father being vocal in the press, but not a lot about Kam. It seems like Bryer has a lot of bitterness and aggression, but we haven't heard much in regard to Kam's upbringing or circumstances unless I've missed it somewhere.

confirms the story that Breyer sent these three pictures himself.

look the way i read it was, he made a friend through a game on steam and sent the photos to them to view, maybe its a WWII type game who knows

Lots of interesting psychological analysis on CBC National. Matt Logan, forensic psychologist. Says the dad has a lot of good insight into his son (Bryer). Believes this was thrill killing.

Link please? If possible.

I noticed one of the suspects had camouflage top on. Closest Military base is CFB Comox, about 2 hours east of Port Alberni.
Anyone have insight on any special training the suspects may have had?

No. Those are not our military uniforms. Here in Canada, our RCAF (Air Force) and Army wear the same cadpat combat uniform (called fatigues in the USofA) We do not give any training to civilians. Comox is a SAR (Search & Rescue) hub for our CAF. Tactical-level Military type training (Ranges, IED, Escape and Evasion etc) - for deployment overseas etc would be done elsewhere and would usually be headed up with Army guys doing the instructing.

Even as cadets, no wearing of our cadpat is allowed, no military weapons training etc.

here we go
it' s all going to start coming out now

Yeah. As much as people try to say it, there are usually signs of some sort.

But they can prevent caches from ever being created in the first place with the coded commands nocache, noimagecache, noindex, etc. That means if the page is not live, there simply is no copy of it or reference to it anywhere once it is deleted.

Absolutely correct. But why would they? Youtube stuff is cached all the time. Again, I can find tons of references to my old accounts, old posts, old pages, all of which have been deleted. I can find steam threads that have been dead for 5+ years, references to my first youtube channel from ... mid 2006, as well as another account I deleted a few months ago.
So yea, it's POSSIBLE every single cache in the world didn't get anything, but just obscenely unlikely.

From what I've seen thus far, everything we know about these guys is from someone who claims to be from Steam, claims to have known Breyer, and allegedly sent a news media outlet pictures that he claims Breyer sent him. I've also seen claims about this youtube channel that just happens to be the only youtube channel that was never indexed by anyone.

I haven't seen any new reports either. I'm going to try and see if I can find a Northern Ontario police scanner link. Broadcastify may have 1 from way up there.

There was a RCMP Press conference this afternoon.

- RAV4 found burned was the same one driven by the pair.
- increased police presence in and around Gillam, no specifics other than additional officers pulled in from other detachments.
- LE committed to communicating any future sightings.
- roadblock set up on the intersection into/out of town.
- the two are considered dangerous, don’t approach, call the RCMP was reemphasized.

That was about it. No mention of the suspect sighted in Ontario. IMO the Ontario Alert was posted as a safety precaution as the two were indeed travelling east from BC.

I wonder why that girl from his hometown wouldn't have reported something so serious? He could have been charged with making death threats.

They were kids.

This stands out to me, and is partly why I feel strongly about this being a dead end road for them.

Former classmates of northern B.C. murder suspect say he would describe killing himself, others

“There were times he would tell me and my friends ways he wanted to kill us and then himself, which is scary,” she said. “One of my friends commented that Bryer said he wanted to kill his whole family.”

I had wondered why there were no public posts when missing or pleas on FB (I searched) from young acquaintances/friends of these guys, it gave me the impression they may have had a reputation. Unfortunate.

Right! Being a minor is referenced in 2 ways here... drinking age and in the eyes of the law. No matter where you are in Canada, at 18, you are an adult, and you are treated as an adult. You can vote, you are charged as an adult, and are no longer protected by the Young Offenders act. This isn't even an issue in this case since they are 18 and 19. Just as another example... my son turned 18 during his last year of school, as of his 18th birthday, I no longer had to sign consent forms for him, he was an adult and could do them himself.

Actually, in BC it turns out you have to be 19 to:
  • Adopt a pet from SPCA
  • Buy cigarettes
  • Buy lottery tickets
  • Change your name (without parent’s permission)
  • Drink/Purchase alcohol
  • Enter a binding contract
  • Gamble
  • Get a driver’s licence (without parent’s permission)
  • Get married (without parent’s permission)
  • Join the forces (without parent’s permission)
  • Leave home (without parent’s permission)
  • Receive a credit card in BC
  • Sue or be sued on your own
The age you have to be to be charged as an adult in a crime is governed federally and is 18 across Canada.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act if you are over 14 but under 17, and found guilty of something which would get an adult a prison sentence of more than two years (first degree/second degree/attempted murder, manslaughter, aggravated sexual assault, other violent offences) you can be sentenced as an adult.

I read some of it...it was the same type of thing that we were discussing in here the other night. Do reporters hide out on WS?

Three dead and two young lives wasted.
What set these vicious killers on this path ?

They must.

Wow! So different from when I went to school in the 1970s. If some guy had dared say that to a girl, one of the other guys (or more) would have beaten the tar out of him. No need to tell parents or the authorities, as those kinds of things were taken care of by fellow classmates. Don't kids stick up for each other any more?

They didn't have your back in my day, either, nor did teachers or parents. Some things don't change.

I'm unsure if anyone has posited this theory already, but is there any discussion re: them hopping a train from Gillam to Churchill? Roughly a nine hour ride to a remote area, (apparently $36 for the 11:30 PM train) or have they left Gillam entirely?
