Tuesday 11:20am - VADER REMANDED INTO CUSTODY

Travis Vader has been remanded into custody until July 27th when he will appear in court again on charges from outstanding warrants unrelated to the McCann case. Vader is still being considered a "Person of Interest" in the McCann case but has not been named a suspect. Police believe he may have information about what happened to the couple. FOX News Reporter Mike Tarakso was in court and will have further details on what transpired in the court room, at Noon on The FOX.

A second person who was taken into custody when Vader was arrested yesterday has been released and no charges were laid against him. RCMP say they will not be naming this individual. RCMP are still at the home where Vader was arrested and continue their investigation.

RCMP are asking people to continue to come forward with information about the light green Hyundai Tuscon with Alberta plate ZPK 289 if they seen it between July 5th to 16th. The search for the McCann's continues... The FOX will keep you updated with the latest.

Bret McCann said police told him the second man was the homeowner; a person can only be charged with helping a fugitive if police can prove the person knew they were violating warrants, Sgt. Taniguchi said. The officer declined to identify the second man, citing privacy legislation.

Speaking from his porch, Bulmer described Vader as a good guy prone to getting into the occasional scrap. He doesn't believe Vader was involved in the McCanns's disappearance. "If he did something like that, I'd be shocked," he said. But Bulmer did say the man could be trouble.
When Vader moved in, he was supposed to find an oil job and only return to Bulmer's home one week out of every four. "But he didn't get a job," Bulmer said.
He also got into trouble with the law. He was arrested June 15 in Mayerthorpe and missed two court dates in the next 10 days.
After that, Bulmer says, he tossed him. "I wasn't about to harbour a fugitive," he said.

Is this not pretty much an admission that DB knew Vader was a wanted man??? What more would they need to charge him with harbouring a fugitive?

The lawyer who had been representing Travis Edward Vader on charges unrelated to the disappearance of a St. Albert couple has quit.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/2010/07/20/edmonton-vader-mccann-court-appearance.html

Travis Vader, the man Alberta RCMP describe as a person of interest in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie Ann McCann, failed to appear in an Edson court Tuesday on unrelated charges...

Vader remains in custody. The other man, who police have not named, was released Tuesday without any charges.

I believe DB meant that as soon as he found out about the missed court dates, he turfed TV out. Quite a feat for a simple man to do when half the community seemed to live in fear of TV?? That would mean TV was homeless approx June 25, just a few days prior to the McCann's disappearance.

Given his stated fear of harbouring a fugitive, maybe DB was ultimately instrumental in letting LE know that Vader had returned to DB's home.

Hazel, I agree with you here, I don't think the SUV was found with doors open either, ONLY because of the Aerial picture showing it in the bush. For me, the odd thing is that even while the car carrier was about to tow it away, forensic photogs were still taking pictures of the back seat. I know in the video of the SUV being towed away, that all the doors were closed.

BBM above: Do you have link for this regarding the rocks? I do not remember reading that, and would be interested in doing so.

I also noticed in the pics that the immense amount of dirt 2/3rds of the way up on the vehicle indicated some "off road" use, but also, there were "smudge" marks on the one side, as you could see in the video. It looked like someone had been leaning/wiping against the side of the SUV, as the "dirt marks" were "cleaner" where the smudging had happened. I will find the spot in the video and indicate it here if anyone is interested in having a look.

One other thing on the SUV, I did notice that there was a towing apparatus attached to the SUV on the front.

I am sure that the odometer reading on the SUV will prove extremely useful. I am hoping that Mr.McCann had the vehicle serviced prior to their trip. I am sure he was very attentive with things like that, since he drove trucks for a living.

For MATOU and WONDERGIRL:

You can read about the "rocks" in this other site, who luckily also read that Facebook thread. (I was starting to doubt myself .... not really ;) ..... I was 100% sure I had read that and it was not a flint of my imagination :)

Thanks UC!!! =

Hey Hazel, if you don't mind me asking, how do you embed the large photos in your post? When I attach a jpeg, it just shows up as a thumbnail. (Sorry to all for being off topic.)

I do the same with any image whether it is jpeg, jpg, gif, png, etc.
After right clicking on an image and getting the url address (properties), I "copy" that address, then click on:

quote.gif

From all the options I select "Insert Image" this is how the icon looks like:
insertimage.gif

A box comes up that says "Please enter the URL of your image:"
"paste" the url address that you copied there, and click OK.

ALTERNATIVELY, if that doesn't work for you, you can just put the image URL in between the following commands:

B] image URL here [COLOR="Red"][B]

HTH :)

PS: try with the following URL address, and let me know if it works: CLICK ON FOLLOWING LINK, COPY URL FROM THE ADDRESS BAR.

fhc: are you trying to post that image?

Click on link, and copy URL from address bar by HIGHLIGHTING the URL address, then right click on it, and select 'COPY' from the drop-down list (menu).

Then click on QUOTE (forgot to say to delete everything in that white box, unless you want to actually 'quote' a post), then follow the rest of the instructions

here is that URL address again:

It would be nice to hear the police give some sort of update on the progression of their investigation. I know how much it bothers me that there has been no new developments as to where the McCann's whereabouts. I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel for the family. I was hopeful yesterday when I heard TV was going to be in court that there may possibly be new charges brought against him in connection to this case, however, disappointed to learn nothing new. Makes me wonder if he is keeping very tight lipped if he knows anything about this couple. I am also still wondering what exactly connected him to this case to begin with.

The man arrested with Travis Vader -the "person of interest" in the case of a missing Alberta couple -was questioned and released yesterday without being charged, the RCMP said.

The man, whose name has not been made public, was nabbed when the RCMP converged on a home in MacKay, Alta., about 3 a.m. Monday.

They were looking for Vader, 38, who had been on the run for three days after police announced he was wanted in the disappearance of Lyle McCann, 78, and Marie McCann, 77, of St. Albert, Alta.

BBM: Sounds like TV was only on the run for 3 days, according to this article.

This could mean:

-he had "nothing" to hide until LE announced they were looking for him for his outstanding arrests (Friday)

-he was unaware that the McCann's were missing (he could have "found" both the RV and the SUV, and not even been aware of the public search by LE)

-he knew that LE and everyone was looking for the SUV, but continued to drive it anyway (prior to him "being on the run for 3 days")

I wonder if he bought the SUV from somebody, knowing it was stolen property, and had hidden it intending to launder it or junk it etc.?

I hope this is okay to post this here.

For those who are not following the support for the McCann's on Facebook, here is a link to a discussion started yesterday by the POI TV's step-son. It is truly heartbreaking to read, and the McCann's son Bret has replied, it is really sad.

Titled: i'm sorry

I saw that too, but wasn't sure if it was ok to post that. I hope this young man is not placing blame on himself for something someone else has possibly done and choices someone else makes.

Thanks, Nettie, I am unsure of the rules regarding FB here at WS, and have requested a mod to clarify.

It sure sounds as if the young man has alot of compassion for the McCann's, and I feel sorry for him.

Both families in this case (the Vader's and the McCann's), have shown alot of class and compassion at such a difficult time, which makes it that much more touching regarding the number of lives affected by this tragic situation.

Thanks Hazel. Much appreciated. I'll test it out soon.

It seems likely that DB must have been of assistance to LE, in capturing Vader.

I read that it could take "a long time" to interview Vader on the McCann's.

Does anyone know if LE is performing any ground searches at this point? I am wondering about the area around the gas station, where the McCann's were last seen filling their vehicle July 3rd.

*Hoping the McCann's are found today.*

If this is the case, I bet DB is really hoping TV stays locked up for a long time!
