If he's in the area, and he grew up there, I think it would be reasonable to believe he's got some pals who are helping him hide out and if these friends are of the same ilk as him, I doubt they'll be dropping a dime on him.

If he left the SUV in the woods where it was found, did he leave that area on foot or did someone pick him up?

So many questions that only LE know, like:

1. Has the lake been checked?
2. Any evidence that there was a getaway vehicle around where the SUV was found?
3. Has it been determined yet, the cause of the RV burning and where did the fire start in the RV?
4. What kind of forensic evidence was found in the SUV?
5. Have LE interviewed known associates of the POI?
6. Has it been confirmed why the Minnow Lake Campground employee(s) knocked on the RV door? Did they hear a disturbance? Was it to collect the registration?
7. What time did the RV arrive at the campground and did other campers see anything/anyone?
8. Have employees at the St Albert Superstore Gas Bar been questioned about whether they saw the POI?
9. Have employees at any of the local truck stops been questioned?

So many questions, not any answers though it's understandable if LE can't release much info at this time.

Residents fearful as police probe McCann case

Some area residents believe they saw Travis Vader at this bar in Nojack earlier this week.
Some residents, who don't want their identities revealed, believe he may still be in the area around Niton Junction.

"A lot of people think he is around here," a man told CTV News. "He knows the area. He's comfortable. He's got friends."
Some residents of the Niton Junction area say they saw Vader at a bar in Nojack, near the location where the McCann's SUV was found late yesterday afternoon and close to where the couple's burnt-out motor home was found earlier this week.

McCann family keeping faith
Last Updated: July 17, 2010 8:34pm
Bret McCann says he trusts that his elderly parents would find a way to survive, even two weeks after they disappeared.

“My dad is very resourceful. They have a farm country background. My dad would find a way to take care of my mom. We’re keeping our hopes up despite that it’s been two weeks here,” he said.

Lyle and Marie McCann have become everybody’s grandparents as the mystery of their ill-fated vacation has captivated the nation.

It would be an embarrassing amount of attention for a usually quiet, family-focused couple who spent their days tending garden and tidying their home.

“I think family was everything to them. They are kind of reserved. They don’t go out a lot. They had a few fast friends they’ve made over the years. We’d see them once a week for sure,” said McCann, describing his mother Marie Ann McCann, 77, and father Lyle Thomas McCann, 78.
Lyle owned and operated semis most of his working life, often driving from Edmonton into B.C. along Hwy 16, said his son.

He retired only five years ago.

“My dad loved driving. I went on trips with him,” he said. “For the last 10 years (of his career), he had this route to Prince Rupert and to Prince George. My dad just loved that. He knew the area well, and he’d talk when he came home that he saw this animal, this moose.”

The poor family they are trying to have hope.

It's kind of interesting that Mr McCann's previous trucking route was to PG.....and their SUV was reportedly spotted there a few days ago (though was this really confirmed for certain? - or was it perhaps bogus and an attempt by the perp(s) to throw off LE and distract them from the AB sites?).

I wonder.....would it EVER be possible that maybe the McCanns are somewhere safe and sound and the local LE where they're at are aware and because they're trying to locate the POI, they're keeping this under their hat (except to the McMann's family members)?...out of fear that if it's announced the McManns are safe and sound, that the POI might go into hiding even deeper out of fear that they'll talk? I wonder if LE would ever do this? -- keep it secret for a while that missing persons have been located and are safe and sound?

Maybe the perp(s) just told them to drive and that's where they drove to...he dumped them off with a threat that if they ID him or give any info, there'll be big trouble as he knows where their home is (would have their house keys)....and then the perp(s) drove back to the Edson area?

I hope so much that they are safe and sound somewhere. If Mr McCann only retired from trucking 5 yrs ago, he is obviously still a pretty sharp cookie and I would venture to guess he's got a lot of 'street smarts' so to speak.....

Vader wanted on many charges
July 18, 2010 6:35 AM

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/canada/Vader+wanted+many+charges/3292969/story.html

As recently as a month ago, Vader was living in Mackay.

More recently, though, he was living one house down from Hewins, with a man named Don Bulmer.

Bulmer, whose property was littered Saturday with empty beer cans and broken machinery, said Vader spent most of the spring in his home. He said he threw Vader out about a month ago when he "stopped following the rules."

He also got into trouble with the law. He was arrested June 15 in Mayerthorpe and missed two court dates in the next 10 days.

After that, Bulmer says, he tossed him. "I wasn't about to harbour a fugitive," he said.

ETA: I should have mentioned that in the article Don Bulmer indicates that, while TV has some issues, he doesn't think that TV would have done this to the McCanns.

2 Interesting things.

Someone posted on the family's FB site last night that they'd run into someone looking like the POI at 9pm last night, and they were 90% sure it was him and they had met w/ LE to report it. It was not too far from Edson. What is it him? Who knows. Seems very hard to believe that someone with his history as reported by LE, who LE are actively searching for, would allow himself to be so visible....mind you, he was allegedly seen driving around in a light colored SUV earlier this week....and local residents saw him in one of the local watering holes, as stated in the news.

Also, someone posted on that same site yesterday that they found some type of website (not FB) where they believe it was the POI posting within the past couple of days there. They claimed to have reported this info to LE. Was it him? Who knows. I have no idea how they could have come across such a site. I searched on Google, many many pages and did not find any kind of site/message board/discussion forum, etc with his name in it and the only thing I came up with was a million links to news articles. No idea how someone from the general public could have come across this. Based on his history, the fact that he has no known address, does he seem like the kind of guy who's going to be sitting down and chatting on a computer? Not really but guess you never know. Could just as easily have been someone with that same name.

It's really unfortunate that the POI has all of these warrants and significant criminal history because if he's truly NOT involved with the disappearance of the McCanns, all of the warrant stuff will naturally prevent him from coming forward to speak with LE about the McCanns. In cases where a person of interest has a clean record and is not known to LE, if they hide out and won't come forward with respect to the case they're a 'person of interest' for, it's often because they DO have some kind of involvement....but in a case like this, his not coming forward doesn't tell us anything; it could be related to the fact that he's got all of these other issues/charges/warrants. Frankly, it's a damn shame he's been running loose for so long given his previous background. Scary to think that people like this are running around, could be our neighbors, people we pass in our communities, etc.

From your link, his ex has went into hiding with her children. Seems many are frightened of him.

Yeah, Ruby, I'd missed that, but read it now. Scary stuff for sure. As my heart goes out to the McCanns, it also goes out to family of the POI's who are likely fearful as well; fearful that he could show up on their doorstep looking to hide out and what a difficult position (and possibly dangerous) that would put any of them in.

I keep looking online for news updates from LE about that status of things but there's really nothing. I would hope the families involved are at least being given some updates/info as days pass, I can't imagine what they are going through.

My own parents are not that much younger than the McCanns and they have a similar RV and do occasionally take it on trips within AB and now I don't want them to go anywhere until this has all been solved. This could have happened to any of our parents or grandparents, so it hits close to home. It makes me incredibly sad that our society is going to heck in a handbag; where nobody is really safe anymore, it seems. Good honest hardworking people can be the target of sick, twisted scumbags....even in small town Canada. Very disheartening, and sobering.

Each morning I wake up and check the online news, hoping to see that they've been found and are safe and well but read nothing of the sort. My heart goes out to their family. I can't even imagine what they're going through, it must be like living in a nightmare.

I'm glad you posted that LayzeeDayzee. I have spent the last couple of days searching through hundreds of comments in the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province, canada.com online comments sections ... searching for a post I had seen where the person twice used the word "awsome" (sic) as TV spelled it on his FB page. Haven't been able to find it again, and presume some of the comments may have been removed. I can't recall what the content of that particular post was about, but the typo stood out to me like a sore thumb, and it was definitely prior to TV being announced as a POI. Hopefully the newspaper or another reader called in with the info.

Along with the rest of you, I'm heartsick about this beautiful couple.

I agree, Layzee. That's why I edited my previous post. It's so easy to get caught up in the "he's a bad actor and he's identified as a POI so he must have done it" thought pattern. Unfortunately, if anything, he's probably more desperate now and more likely to do something rash. It's wishful thinking on my part that perhaps the POI will see this as an 'opportunity' to come forward and put his life back on track. Yes, I know....wishful and naiive thinking. :python:

Why do I get the feeling the Highway of Tears is part of this?

Haven't read the whole thread yet, so apologies if this has already been discussed. Two other seniors, 71 y.o. Jean Annie Roelfsema and 70 y.o. Stephanie Stewart, have vanished from that area in the last couple of years. Jean last used her Visa card at a gas station in Edson, and Stephanie disappeared from her forestry tower job near Hinton (approx 50 miles from Edson).

One newspaper closed down their comments section online. I wonder if it was just a annoying poster or not...
