Linda vanished in 1968 from the campus of Western Ontario, in London Ontario. Her remains were found in 1963 in a tobacco farmer's field, about 70 km from where she is thought to have disappeared, London Ontario, at or near the campus of the university. She was a popular, quite striking 19-year-old with just past shoulder length blonde hair and a 'boppy' personality. She had finished a French exam, asked friend to go out to a bar but was turned down and is believed to have returned to her place of residence, on campus, and change he clothes. She was never seen alive again after that. This is a very cold case, however, to many is a solvable case. Despite the very long time that has passed, there are specifics about her case that could lead to more discovery, witnesses or suspects. My family has been crestfallen for over 40 years, having exerted a plethora on energy and time devoted to finding out exactly who is responsible for this tragic crime. There have been many theories, leads and suspicions but not enough facts and evidence to lead to her killer. I'm no profiler, nor detective, but have specific details that a crime afiecenato might be about to use to help solve this ongoing, unsolved case. Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to see my aging parents, aunts and uncles have some closure in their later years, before they pass. Thanks. M

You might want to get verified. Just so people take you seriously. I googled the case, one article mentioned possibly three serial killers in the same town at the same time. I've never been been anywhere in Canada and I don't know what London was like back in in the day. I don't know if that is more than normal. I'm sorry your family doesn't have answers yet.

London cold-case slaying thrust under new spotlight
April 18, 2014
"She was just “a skeleton in the woods.”

Forty-five years after her disappearance, the mystery of Lynda White’s slaying and discovery gets the attention of a celebrity civilian team of investigators on Saturday night.

The last episode of To Catch A Killer on the Oprah Winfrey Network, the brainchild of Western University professor and former London police officer Mike Arntfield, tries to connect the dots and finds that a suspect named “David” is a prime suspect in White’s 1968 disappearance.

White was a Western student who vanished after writing a mid-term exam. Her body was found in 1972 in a wooded area in Norfolk County.

The show also connects White’s death to Soraya O’Connell, a 15-year-old London girl who disappeared in 1970 and whose remains were found near Stratford in 1973.

Not mentioned in the program, but clear from an earlier episode, is the connection to the slaying of Jackie English, 15, who vanished after working her shift at the Metropolitan store cafeteria on London’s outskirts on Oct. 4, 1969.

Her body was discovered in a creek near Tillsonburg in 1970".

A beautiful, young co-ed goes missing after writing an exam on campus at the University of Western Ontario. Police believe she ran off, but five years later her body is found in the woods 100 km away. Five civilians and their police-detective mentor use fresh eyes, new technology and dogged determination to try to crack the case … 45 years later."

To be verified as an insider /family member in a case, means that you can post information without the backup of a news link ect.
Verification Process for Professional or Insider Posters

Hi MAW1977, dotr is correct. We typically require that information claimed as fact is backed up with a link to a Law Enforcement (LE) or Main Stream Media (MSM) source for the fact. We have a verification process to confirm to the best of our ability that the person is indeed closely connected to the case. This is a precaution because of the anonymity of the internet. Once someone is a verified insider (VI) they can post without a link. We value our VIs very much because they can often provide information and insight that we wouldn't get from news articles or press conferences.

Hope you will be interested in getting verified! Feel free to message me if you should have any other questions/concerns. Just click my username and then "start a conversation".

And one small detail, I think this thread should probably be moved over to the "1960's missing" area of the forum. I will move it over - it should direct you and any subscribers to the new location automatically.

How do we fix the psycho's? Before they ever have a first victim. Before they can turn into serial offenders. There needs to be a way to better protect our families. To better protect our children, and grandchildren. IMO we have far too many memorials, to those whose lives are forever frozen, to their age at death.

As to the video. Do we know if their team ever presented the information to a grand jury? Is that how it would even work?

Interesting and lengthy, but disturbing article from 2014.. rbbm.
Box of clues found in late cop’s home may help solve cold cases
by Jane Sims March 22, 2014
"Nestled beside his Second World War memorabilia, the late OPP superintendent hid away a personal time capsule — memoirs and news clippings chronicling his best efforts to solve a string of horrifying, still-unsolved sex killings more than 40 years ago.

That discovery by Alsop’s son, after his father died in 2012, now has the potential to finally solve the murders in the late 1960s and early ’70s of at least three young women — Jackie English and Soraya O’Connell, both 15, and 19-year-old Lynda White — and maybe more.

A celebrity sleuth who got wind of the clues and hunches the retired cop left behind has come up with an even more sinister theory — that a sexually motivated serial killer with an erotic attraction to corpses, who’s already been convicted of murder, was lurking around Southwestern Ontario, randomly picking off young women to satisfy his sick urges.

That theory is outlined in a private investigative report, obtained by QMI Agency from a police source.

The suspect was willing to drive long distances and may have kept souvenirs from his deadly conquests. He made sure other personal items taken from his victims were disposed of far away from the bodies.

He may have kept the corpses for days, weeks — even years."
"The information has proven an excellent starting point for a group of civilian investigators, led by London police officer and Western University professor Mike Arntfield. They want the OPP to followup."

"English disappeared Oct. 4, 1969. Her nude body was recovered five days later in a creek near Tillsonburg, Ont. Some of her clothing was found scattered in Oxford and Elgin counties.

White, a Western University student, had disappeared a year earlier. Her body was found in Norfolk County, Ont.

In his memoirs, Alsop makes a connection between the two homicides."
"The ball is now in the OPP’s court, but it says the independent probe has little bearing on its investigation."

Lynda White went missing in the fall of 1968 and her skeletal remains were found five years later in 1973. This case should probably be moved to the Cold Case section of Websleuths, since she is no longer missing, but her murder remains unsolved.

Why would the perp remove Lynda's left arm below the elbow? It just does not seem to be the type of trophy usually taken by killers, has that happened to any other victims?
imo.

19-year-old Lynda disappeared after her French exam at Western University in London, Ontario, on November 14, 1968. Her remains weren’t found until June 1972. Lynda’s left arm was missing from her elbow down. According to outside investigators this removal wasn’t due to animal scavenging but was intentional."

He removed it and kept it "as a precious souvenir".

It is certainly not a "usual" practice for a killer to keep that specific part, but it might be a fetish/signature with this particular killer.

What it does indicate is that this was not just an accidental death and cover up or any such thing. She was the intentional victim of a cold blooded serial killer.

Body recovered and identified in 1972. Her murder remains unsolved.

London, Ontario, Canada, is near Windsor - which is just across the river from Detroit, Michigan.

There were a number of unsolved murders of young people committed there in the 1960's and 70's. It is very likely that some of them were connected and committed by a serial predator.

Could there also be connections with similar crimes committed in Michigan in that time frame?
