''The mother of a 17-year-old from Poplar River First Nation in northern Manitoba is pleading to the public to help find her daughter after she went missing from a hotel lobby in Winnipeg on Oct. 6 at around 9 p.m.

“She went downstairs and just never came back to the hotel room,” Deborah Bittern said of her daughter Mackenzie Sinclair while holding back tears in an interview with APTN News.

Bittern, along with her daughter Sinclair and Sinclair’s 15-month-old son, travelled from Poplar River for Sinclair’s son’s eye surgery at Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre. The surgery was scheduled for Oct. 7.

Bittern said her daughter’s disappearance is out of character for her and when they were having supper that Monday night, Sinclair talked about how relieved she was that her son was going to get the help that he needed.''

“People were telling me she did this before, I said no this feeling is different.

I wonder how often she's done this before?

I can see a teen mother with a toddler who has a medical condition being very overwhelmed by the whole situation. Parenthood, a child with medical issues. I hope she turns up safe.

That gives me some hope. I have a 17yo who would never cope with a baby nevermind a baby needing surgery, that's bloody stressful!

Please be safe kiddo

Oh for sure. The place she lives is isolated, she's just a kid herself, and now she's the mother of a medically fragile toddler; I wouldn't blame her if she wanted to walk away. Even a mature adult with lots of support would struggle. I hope if she did walk away she had plans to keep herself safe.

Wikipedia (for what it's worth) has lots of interesting info on Poplar River First Nation.

So, at least once before.
Interesting that when MS went missing as a 14 yr old, it was also in association with a hospital scenario, imo. speculation.
From link..
''Her grandmother, Eliza Berens, said Mackenzie's family was in town from Poplar River First Nation to visit her father in the Health Sciences Centre's ICU, but Mackenzie went missing while at the hospital.''

If I understand correctly, the only way in or out of where she lives is by plane. If that is the case, maybe these two hospital visits are the only time she's been able to leave?
