Nova Scotia RCMP release photos of man’s jeans, boot in bid to identify body | The Star
"DIGBY, N.S.—RCMP in Nova Scotia have released photos of a tattered pair of jeans and a large boot as they continue to investigate the discovery of a body along a beach in Digby County.

The Mounties say the body was found Sept. 8 near Sandy Cove.

The province’s medical examiner’s office later determined the remains were that of a man.

His clothing included a pair of Urban Heritage-brand jeans with a 36-inch waist size and a black Terra-brand boot.

Police say the circumstances that led to the man’s death have not yet been determined and the case has been recently added to the website Canada’s Missing.

The entry on that website indicates the man is believed to be between 30 and 60."

Terra is a Canadian brand of boot available widely, including at Mark's, Canadian Footwear, and...Staples, for some reason.

The Urban Heritage label seems almost actively obscure; I can find a ton of them on Kijiji but not on store websites.

I’m from Toronto, but moved to Nova Scotia about two years ago. Digby is about 30 minutes from where I live.

I’m not sure, but one reason the clothing label seems obscure may be this:

In Digby there’s an enormous second-hand clothing store called ‘Frenchies’ (sp?) Not entirely sure why, but it’s so popular that bus tours stop there.

It’s like a Goodwill clothing store, but bigger. And less fun.

I’ve heard that one main source of the clothing is Boston and Maine (donation bins of some sort).

He may have been a seasonal, transient seafood worker as Digby has a large fishing port. Or a seasonal farm worker from the ‘Digby Neck’ area.

Hey!! :) Frankie says it’s a storm tomorrow!

I was looking at his clothing, you mentioned the Wharf Rat Ralley. His boots may make sense if he was a biker. And bikers from all over the world attend.

I don’t understand why he hasn’t apparently been reported missing. Everyone knows everyone in that area.

I haven’t seen jeans so damaged before. My first thought was farm machinery. Or a boat propeller, which would make more sense. Has anyone seen damage like that or have an idea how that may have happened?

Also with fishermen/shore men I haven’t noticed them wearing those type of boots-they tend to wear rubber work boots.

From the reconstruction, he could be a member of the Indigenous community, IMO.

Sandy Cove where he was found is on the north side of St. Mary’s Bay, Weymouth is on the south side. In the recent past there have been disputes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous lobster fishing in that area, fwiw.

Yes I don’t think a fisherman would wear those boots either. They are so high that I keep thinking biker. Its strange he hasn’t been reported as missing by ANYONE!So the beach is on the St Mary’s Bay side and not the Bay of Fundy side Lexie?

Many events in NS around the time this UID was found, noting just a few that may have been of interest to a guy wearing big boots, imo, speculation.

No, sorry: I’m wrong. (dammit) I was thinking Sandy Cove (red marker) when he was found on Sandy Cove *Beach*, which is on the Bay of Fundy side.

Just a hunch, but I’m wondering if the local Mi'kmaq community is missing someone.

I live in Parkers Cove on the Bay of Fundy. The water is very cold: average is 15 degrees C in summer to -1 in winter and has the world’s highest tides. (As you know.)

We know it’s dangerous, but unfortunately tourists are not as aware. (Eg. tourists getting injured or killed venturing onto the black rocks at Peggy’s Cove.)

Could the tidal action against the rocks explain his shredded jeans?

Participants register for the Wharf Rat Rally, but I’d imagine some do not. It draws thousands.

I noticed that they tend to bike in groups during the rally (a lot of them ride down Shore Road along the Bay where I live.)

If he was part of it, where is his bike?

Now that you mention the Mi’kmaw community, adding this event, from my earlier post. ..

I’m also thinking as well..... if the Wharf Rally was the last week in Aug , would he have been unidentifiable 2 weeks later?Could he have been on the Saint John- Digby ferry?I know there are sometimes suicides off of the Newfoundland ferry....

Identified!
@jillybean51 you were right about NB.

“A body that washed up on the beach in Sandy Cove in Digby County in September has been identified.

A 43-year-old man from Saint John, N.B., had been reported missing late last summer and his body was identified through DNA analysis, RCMP said in a news release Monday.”
