It seems to be a lovely neighborhood of fine homes.

There’s a park called Gaiser Park nearby that looks to be maybe a children’s playground and a basketball court, maybe.
Then I see there is a Coyle Creek Park close by, as well as The Coyle Creek itself.
For some reason, water always needs to get looked at, doesn’t it...

Questions we wish we had answers to:
There’s no mention of her having a phone with her, so I’m guessing not? I could see if it’s just a short 15-20 min walk, one might think to leave the phone home.
Did she have any cognitive issues?
Depression?
Did she live with someone else? (Spouse, SO, or other)

Who saw her out walking or knew she was going?

It would have been dark at 19.00hrs, not to mention bitterly cold at the end if February. I'm assuming a bit of snow too? Was it a usual thing to do on a Sunday evening, a walk, just for 15 mins or so??
There wouldn't be too many others around, pedestrians or traffic.
And you can't go too far walking in that short space of time.
As it is an affluent area, maybe some of the houses have cameras and may have spotted her walking past?

Police seek help locating missing Welland woman
''Jagiello is not overly familiar with Welland and when she goes for walks does not go far from her home.''

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/missing-woman-welland-1.5932008
''Police said while the search area is being concentrated in the southwest corner of the city, with an increased police presence in the area, they're asking people near Jagiello's home to check their properties and any out buildings like garages or sheds.''

"Members of the public, businesses or dash cam owners in the area of Jagiello's residence are being asked to review camera footage for any sightings of Jagiello on Feb, 28, 2021, between 6:50 p.m. and 8 p.m.," police said in a release.''

Did anyone actually see her walking that evening? Who reported her missing? Why isn't she familiar with the area? MOO

I wish they'd release more details about the days/moments leading up to Maria's disappearance. There seems to be too many unanswered questions which could help lead to tips. They have been and continue to search wooded areas around her neighborhood, but how do they know she didn't hitch a ride with someone? She could be anywhere by now.

Yes, more details would be helpful in finding this poor missing woman! As @Gobstopper wondered, who reported her missing? Was it someone she lives with?
Or does she live alone? Did she state she was going for a walk, or is it an assumption or guess, as it was something she did frequently at that time?

Was she new to the area, and that’s why she was “not overly familiar with Welland”?

What was her state of mind at the time? Was she upset about something?

Why aren’t family members speaking out?

Video of Maria walking at 6:55pm eastbound on Gaiser!
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/missing-woman-welland-video-maria-jagiello-1.5942774

Any thoughts/observations based on this short clip?

My thoughts:
Why did she go on the grass, avoiding the sidewalk for a bit? Puddle (though I can’t see one, if there)? A sign of confusion on her part? Unsteadiness?
As @jenpil surmised, there is some snow on the ground.
I’m thinking this looks like the corner of Gaiser and Clare. Google Maps
We can say it is correct she did go out walking, and was alone at least at this time of the video. JMO

Thanks for posting this video! Thoughts for now..
First impression is that MJ is being careful to avoid slipping on ice, maybe a particularly slippery looking bit on the sidewalk caused her to step on the grass-
Second thing that comes to mind and like the above, speculation on my part, but i get the sense that something hurts her on the left side because she seems to clutch herself with left hand, at least initially.
imo, speculation

@Niagara411news
There are some interesting tidbits of info given in the comments at the link above. All or none of it may be true, so... Most of it pertains to various areas that have been searched and places ppl think should be searched. A couple of comments appear to be from neighbors who give a little background on Maria. MOO

Seems like a well-manicured neighborhood. There must be doorbell/security cameras on some of those homes.

Ah, I didn’t even think of icy sidewalks! Seems very plausible. See, I live in “sunny SoCal” (although it is raining today—hail, even! Yay) and never have to think of that when walking, so it didn’t even occur to me.
I agree the placement of her left hand doesn’t seem natural; that there must be a reason for holding it there instead of swinging it like the other arm, or putting in a pocket, let’s say. Good thinkings. Gee, what has happened to this woman?

I don't see her left arm move at all throughout the whole video. At first I thought that she might be carrying something on the inside of her coat (e.g., purse, large bottle, etc.). After zooming in, it looks to me as though her left arm is in a sling. It seems that if she's holding her arm there, then the position would change at some point, even if it's only a slight change. But then wouldn't they have mentioned the sling when describing her clothing?

I love the brainstorming here! It’s so hard to see, but good thought. Your thought of a sling idea led me to think maybe she’s holding an envelope or something to her body. Maybe she was going to deliver something to someone? Or, did she pick up her mail and that’s what she’s holding? (I don’t know where her mailbox is, but I think I saw a group mailbox—cluster mailboxes, is it called?—in the neighborhood while I was googling around her area.

It looks to me like she's holding a purse or a package. It seems too dark to be out walking alone. I wonder if she walked the same route every evening. Also wonder if she had any indications of dementia. MOO

  • #17
Could her coat be missing a button or two, and she’s holding her hand against her body to keep her coat from flapping open?

Surely they would know if the body was Maria by now.

I thought maybe she crossed onto the grass because another walker was coming towards her on the sidewalk. With Covid, as I am walking I tend to go off the sidewalk into the street to give space. Especially if I see another dog walking towards us. Especially because I walk unmasked and am in a rather spread out area, trying to be courteous.
