Mekayla Bali, 17, was last seen at a bus depot in Yorkton, Sask. on April 12, 2016. Staff at the depot said she did not buy a ticket.
Police said on that day, Mekayla left Sacred Heart High School shortly after arriving, then briefly stopped at a pawn and bargain shop and at a bank.
She then went to Tim Hortons before returning to her high school before noon. Bali left Sacred Heart High School and went to the bus terminal where she bought lunch at a restaurant. She was seen leaving the depot around 1:45 p.m. CT.
Mekayla’s mother, Paula Bali, last saw Mekayla, who was 16 at the time, when Paula dropped her off at school at April 12, 2016. She says the morning was a regular one and there was no cash or makeup missing from the house.
“We have been unable to confirm any sighting of Mekayla past 1:45 of April 12, 2016,” Ebert said.
Ebert said police believe Mekayla is still alive.
“However it is very disturbing that there has been no sighting of Mekayla within a year that we’ve been able to confirm,” Ebert said.
RCMP have not been able to identify the unknown man who may have been with Bali at the STC bus depot.
Police describe the man as between 40 and 50 years old, 5’10” to 6’2”, with dark hair and a tattoo below his left elbow of a cross with flames around it.
Paula spoke about Mekayla’s interests, including books and baking, while asking for people with information to step forward.
“Mekayla was an emotionally stable teenager and had career aspirations to be a kindergarten teacher.”
I feel the same way. For her to possibly meet someone around a bus depot and travel all the way to BC only to be potentially spotted here doesn't make much sense. Her mother has exhasutively visited Vancouver (I think 4 visits) to spread the word and look. If it were random tips that didn't have much validity, I don't think it would make that much sense to fly out here that often, yet again we don't know the full story. Maybe the police have possibily found out out several potential locations and is going off that in conjunction with tips.
I feel at this point, they should release as much information as possible that wouldn't damage the investigation. I feel they are holding back on little details that could potentially make a large difference in the case.
I feel sightings could easily be look a likes. There are tons of girls here that could possibly match one of her looks. Her style is not uncommon unfortunately.
I wish that whatever happened, her mom finds out. It is so heartbreaking to hear of the pain she is going through especially though the holidays.
The more people talking about the case the better. It keeps her story alive, and at this point anything helps.

Family members sent out an emotional plea last week for help in their search as detectives and staff from the center continue to investigate the case.

rbbm.On the one-year anniversary of her disappearance, RCMP confirmed that the over 200 tips received had lead investigators to B.C. and the U.S.
Paula, Mekayla's mother, said the information isn't new information to her.
It's something we've been aware of for some time, it just wasn't necessarily confirmed information, Paula said. She said they receive tips from Canada, the U.S. and internationally and get about four a week.
She said that the fact they still receive many tips about Mekayla gives her hope they will find her daughter.
The most encouraging part is creating that awareness and that's what so important to Mekayla's case is that people being aware of what Mekayla looks like.

RCMP received additional tips while this week’s search was ongoing, one of which led to an additional search of an area 8 kilometres south of Yorkton.
“We’re still missing key pieces of information,” Ebert said. “And we can’t speak to what happened to her since that date.”
The last known whereabouts of Bali was the Yorkton bus depot at 1:45 p.m. April 12, 2016. Since then she has left no digital or personal footprint. The investigation has stretched across Western Canada and even into the U.S.
