Just watching the evening news, can't help but think of Mekayla:

What happens when 16 year olds age out of human trafficking circles? Are they murdered? If so, why don't we have a pile of bodies of people missing 10 years but dead less than a year?

If they are not murdered, why don't they do a Zoom announcement about human trafficking? Do they grow up to become the human traffickers too far removed from family to reconnect? Can they never escape?

I'm not sure who you're directing the question to. There was a case local to me, a human trafficking ring involving a fake cleaning business. Women were transported in cleaning vans and moved around to motels. Once the ring was busted by LE, by the time it went before the courts none of the women could be located to testify. They went somewhere and so far I haven't read many stories of UID females in the area.

I think they get moved around from city to city. Some probably disappear, overdose, run away or are murdered. Organized crime groups like bikers wouldn't leave piles of bodies, they most likely have other ways of making things go away. Robert Pickton is a prime example of how people can vanish without a trace and it was rumored that he was acquainted with some biker gangs.

Other women likely become recruiters themselves and help to manage new girls. It would make sense to have women involved especially those who have been in that world for a long time because they're desensitized and know the ropes.

It seems odd that a trafficker would ask Mekayla to do all of these things, meeting at the bus station, walking around town, the coffee shop etc. Would a trafficker pick someone up in the middle of the day like that?

The creepy guy in the Tim Hortons video is WEIRD. He walks past the group at the table, no one stops him to say hi, it's like they don't see or recognize him. Then he turns around and approaches them as if he's saying "Hey, do you know when the bus arrives?". It doesn't look like a "Hey guys, how's it going!" friendly kind of thing. JMO.

It seems reasonable to withdraw donated reward money after 4 years, especially since it has made no difference.

Most often reward money is for a living person or information leading to conviction. This strikes me as an abduction committed by one person and no witnesses, so reward money does little more than generate wild speculation tips from people hoping to get lucky with the reward money.

Thanks Otto, I haven't come upon a withdrawal of donated funds and can't help but wonder how that works. Do you think it's possible that the $25,000 was actually a loan? A new poster has been put out by the family, reward has been increased again.

Thanks for posting this info Dotr... this possible sighting does show up in the donation timeline. I had been thinking about the hope her Mother had when she received contact by the Tipster and how she felt there was something to this tip explaining the Tipster described her daughter so well. Tipster had Mekayla's info from the poster he saw and from social media as mentioned by her Mother....

Bumping because I discovered Mekayla has an NCMEC page. There are only 5 Canadian cases on NCMEC, the other 4 are from 20 and 30 years ago and are parental abductions. This, more than anything, makes me think the sightings have credence.

I was able to access the NCMEC link earlier, returned here this evening to take another look and I got a 404 error, ran a site search for Mekayla Bali and came out with no results... wondering what that's about... I agree it did give the sightings credence.

With all the speculation on her mom's Facebook page, I really wish that the RCMP would at least release whether or not they think Mekayla is moving around of her own free will. If she is alive, is she eluding police contact because she doesn't want to be found at all, or is someone keeping her from communicating with police?

I'm looking for this as well, still looking for something recent but was glad to find this in an earlier post December 04, 2017 Missing Children Society of Canada
'At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of foul play; however, we must locate and speak with her to confirm her safety. Mekayla's family is concerned for her well-being, and like us, wants to ensure she is safe.'

She probably thought that the stone was worth something, whereas the pawn shop seems to have dismissed the stone and looked at the silver value. The silver value in a ring would be next to nothing. Since it seems to be worthless, it won't be found in a pawn shop, but in might have been kept as a souvenir by someone who lured her.

... and I believe I saw a flash of the red gemstone.... unable to post clip at that point on this tablet... start at 9:01... possibly kept as a souvenir, yes.

When I clicked the link, her last name isn't listed as an alias, just written like Bali/Niebergall. However it is confusing. I've seen her names listed as "AKA" which is indeed incorrect. At least to my understanding of what a true alias is (thinking of career criminals). On the other hand, if Mekayla left by choice and wanted to go by another name she has a few options.

Also, I'm not sure how to say this but under "distinguishing features" it lists acne. While she was in fact taking Accutane and while she didn't bring it with her, acne doesn't always last forever. I suppose acne scarring could be a feature. From the photos I saw, sometimes it looks like Mekayla had a dimple in her chin. IMHO this could also be a distinguishing feature. Something I would look for to rule someone in/out.

Can someone explain the importance of whose name is on the birth certificate?

The only thing that I can think of is that PB (the mother) has denied that Rick Niebergall is Mekayla's father. I had presumed that no father was listed on the birth certificate due to PB being a single parent and Mekayla having her mother's surname (Bali).

I think M was waiting to meet someone that morning. When she did finally meet the person, something nefarious happened. It is odd that her friends did not know what she was up to and were unable to provide any valuable information. IMO Definitely foul play was involved for many reasons, one being she didn’t pack her cell phone charger, hasn’t used her bank account since the day she went missing et etc. PB mentioned these things in a podcast listed on previous posts.

I hope there is closure for this family. Four years and hearing nothing, I can not imagine the trauma, grief and loss the family must have gone through and are most likely still going through.

Info Mekayla's friends gave ... I've lost my notes ... dormant in a crashed laptop however this is an informative overview by CBC news. I heard about Mekayla initially through her mother's comments and concerns related to possible trafficking and my speculation is that info from friends highlight many of the flags that often indicate the grooming, abduction and trafficking of adolescent girls. It is disappointing that the info we have from friends and possible sightings does not indicate Mekayla is missing by force and LE continue to state no foul play.

I am glad to hear her mother is still hopeful. Yes, I read there were sitings near Calgary and perhaps Edmonton. I do live in Alberta.

On another note, reading some of her instagrams posts, it appears to me, Mekayla was battling with depression and other mental health issues for some time prior to her disappearance. Perhaps, this is related as well.
