GUILTY Canada - Melissa Richmond, 28, stabbed to death, Winchester, Ont, 24 July 2013

Thanks. So they were Lord and Lady Canton of Harrowgate Heath. She was Lady Aevianna Nordenge. He was Lord Dragul Maksimov Vodnikov - also known as Lord Vod.

That doesn't sound introverted to me either. His roles of Master in the Masonic Lodge and Lord in the Medieval Game seem like he aimed for leadership. Dwelling on poetry and feelings, for a soldier, sounds a bit weird. Keeping his feelings in check seems par for a soldier.

Yet, this soldier reportedly liked poetry. It reminds me of the story of Ferdinand the Bull, except in this case the husband has been in the military for 24 years, so clearly he is cut out for it - unlike Ferdinand.

Sigh, I ask again Otto, who said he was introverted?

As for the titles, an Award of Arms in the SCA allows a person to use or place the Title "Lord" or "Lady" in front of their names. The AoA is often the first 'Award' a person earns in the SCA. If you look at as 'ranks' it goes, from lowest to highest:

Lord/Lady
Lordship/Ladyship
Baron/Baroness
Sir/Master/Mistress
Viscount/Viscountess
Count/Countess
Duke/Duchess

and the 'of Harrowgate Heath' just denotes the SCA local group they live in, and not rank or ownership.

My mistake. She was "introverted" and he was "introspective".

Thanks for the clarification in the game rank.

The PTSD poet soldier with 24 years in the service sounds like an oxymoron to me. Was Melissa interested in poetry?

Sorry, I have no idea if she was or wasn't.

Sorry, I have no idea if she was or wasn't.

It was posted upthread that she was introverted, and that's why she took a late night drive by herself ... so she could be alone. I wondered why she couldn't find a way to be a lone in that 4400 square foot home she shared with her husband ... apparently introverted people do that ... drive in the dark late at night to: reduce stimulus.

She left her cell phone behind, and she ended up in Ottawa - perhaps looking for a public place that was open later at night.

There's a 24 hr Tim Horton's restaurant in Winchester, a max of 5 minutes from their home, so if she did indeed head to Ottawa she must have had a planned destination.

LurkingSpectator, the more I think about it, the more I think you may be right about what happened that night. If they met friends in Ottawa after work, each having their own vehicle, it makes sense that they got gas together on their way home. I'm wondering why they would stop at Dennys and not go in for a meal. Did something happen when they with friends and they argued about it in the parking lot?

In a sense, that seems to be the simplist interpretation of what happened. It's possible that police tracked the husband's cell phone to the Chesterville area and that they were looking there for the weapon.

Thanks for your insights.

HR is (was??) a geomatics technician with the Canadian Forces. Geomatics technicians collect geospatial data using imagery and GPS devices and survey equipment, capturing, analyzing, processing, presenting, disseminating and managing this data to support the operations of the Army.

Working environment - Most work at a base or station is done in an office environment in a major headquarters within Canada. Geomatics Technicians are also employed aboard ships, on survey duties, and in Army units that train in the field and deploy on operations.

Would geomatics technicians also be involved in combat..??

So both homes are in Winchester? I thought there was one in Chesterville since LE was searching near there. I know about Castle Greyskull but not the other one.

Is Chesterville where the party was then?

The "Help us find Melissa Richmond" facebook page is closed as well, I suspect due to very nasty comments that were showing up there yesterday, after the news of the arrest hit the airwaves.

That page went South in a real hurry. People were questioning the situation and people were getting upset defending Howard. They were talking about the PTSD and people who had been thorough it were describing it and the Howard supporters were having none of it. It was strange.

Chesterville is where police closed off a road and searched for evidence.

Any locals know where this picture would have been taken and where in relationship to this picture was Melissa's car found, where there might be a gas station that the couple might have been seen on video surveillance at the night she went missing/murdered, where in relationship to this picture is the house called Greyskull?

In the picture below it looks to me like the police officers might be retracing the path taken by Harold possibly on his walk back to his truck or his drive back to their house. The police are no doubt looking for evidence that might have been dropped while walking or thrown from a vehicle.

I think the video from the gas station showing both Melissa and Harold in separate vehicles played a major role in solving this crime. The video likely placed Harold at the gas station which contradicted what he told the police by saying he and Melissa were both at home at that time or that he was home and Melissa had left on her drive. When in fact he was not.

The video might show that Harold left his truck at the gas station and later returned on foot, it might show an argument between the couple or perhaps show that they both drove away and in what direction they left (not towards their home).

Strange they were looking there (County road 7 in Chesterville) unless that's where the gas station is that they went to that night. OR that's where the party was that night IMO.

I think that it's not unusual for people close to the suspect to be in complete disbelief. A few years ago, there was a young, rising star in architecture. As he left work, one day, he discussed good restaurants for a night out with his wife, then he went home, murdered the downstairs tenant, his wife, two daughters and then committed suicide next to his still living infant daughter. It was bizarre, but he had tremendous financial pressures and he was most likely having difficulties with no longer being a "golden" boy. For him, the easy way out was family annihilation.

It seems that in this case, the husband decided that the easy way out of the mounting financial strain was murder.

In an earlier post I believe I explained that PTSD is now accepted in individuals who have not experienced one 'traumatic' event per se, but have been in a prolonged situation where there has been a heightened sense of fear for ones life as well. From what I understand, 'being in combat' in places like Bosnia and Afghanistan have taken on a whole new meaning, since there are no longer anything like 'front lines' etc. I would imagine that just being assigned to those places soldiers would be considered 'in combat' even if they were not directly confronting the enemy, as bases, patrols, convoys, etc are continually being attacked, and IED's put even supply people in continual danger.

Do you have a link for the photo? Is the article about Chesterville or the parking lot?
