Longueuil police are looking for the person who left a newborn baby boy on a doorstep on Sunday at around 11 p.m.

Police said the person rang the doorbell and fled the scene. The people inside the home on Bourgeoys Street immediately called 911.

The newborn was found swaddled in a blanket and his umbilical cord still attached when he was found, according to police.

Longueuil police and paramedics provided care to the child upon arrival and he then was taken to hospital and is in good health.

Mélanie Mercille, spokesperson for the Service de police de l'agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), said the infant was born at 34 weeks.

Mercille said she couldn't disclose the gender of the person who left the baby at the doorstep and that in her 17-year career as an officer, she had never seen such a case.

Longueuil police said they would go door to door on Monday to determine whether anyone in the area has camera footage that could help them locate the newborn's parents. Analyses will also be carried out to help police find the person who dropped the child off at the doorstep.

After following the recent case in KY where the baby wasn't left somewhere to live, I'm grateful someone gave the baby a chance.

Worried about the mom and hope she is okay.

As an adoptee, I’m strongly on the side of adoptees knowing who their birth parents are. However, this mother wrapped her baby up and left it someplace safe where it would be found and cared for. Leave her alone. There’s plenty of time to search for mom if the baby wishes after it is grown up. Let mom heal and hopefully rebuild her life while baby is raised by adoptive parents.

Bless the person who left this baby somewhere safe. Hopefully it was the birth mother's choice, but she really should have a medical checkup after giving birth, IMO.

And, bless this newborn baby, and whoever shows up to raise him. Being born at 34 weeks must mean he is tiny, and being alive now must mean he has a strong will to live. More power to him!

JMO, but there are those cases where going to a hospital or clinic may be out of the question, ranging from unwanted pregnancy (forced and unforced) to societal pressure. Going to a medical institution means that the baby will be linked to you, and probably the mother did not want that. Hopefully, the baby has no complications from being left outside with the cord still attached.

I agree, though I think the search for mom is to make sure she's okay.
