York regional police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that took place on New Year’s Day in Newmarket.

The alleged incident happened as an 18-year-old woman was walking from the GO bus terminal on a pathway near Davis Drive shortly before 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Police say that 37-year-old Kevin Wyatt was arrested at his Newmarket residence on Thursday night and charged with one count of sexual assault causing bodily harm in connection with the attack.

Wyatt’s arrest comes after police released an artist’s rendering of a suspect in the case on Monday.

Police say Wyatt will be held in custody until a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday
