Just to complicate matters -

NIAGARA BLUES: NRP has history of corruption, brutality

Steroids, smuggling, theft, drugs, corruption and violence have been part of the NRP’s culture for decades. Here is a sampling.

NIAGARA BLUES: NRP has history of corruption, brutality

The article also has a statement from a Niagara police source to the Sun regarding Parker, the constable that was shot -

“Nobody, but nobody feels sorry for him,” one Niagara police source told The Toronto Sun.

They smuggled wheels of cheese and chicken wings into Canada from the US. Sheesh! Who has time to pedal cheese?!

Idiots!

Wonder how long it will take the SIU to announce any details?

Yes, I'm curious to know what heinous insult lead to an officer shooting his colleague while out investigating a traffic accident.

Even if Donovan is charged, it will be for optics only imo. It's difficult to get an officer convicted by a jury, especially when that officer was on duty - Parker and his history can be the best defense here.

Suspect JDG's observation of 'roid rage by Parker might be what is behind this and Parker got the worst of it in a fight he may have started. Things have to be pretty bad for one cop to pull let alone intentionally fire a gun at another cop. Jmo.

IF anyone is charged, it will be a court case. Extremely severe to shoot an officer, for any reason. Possibly Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.

I just hope that this leads to a whole review of the hiring process, training programs, violence within the cop culture etc. etc. within ALL police services.

I do see a self defense plea ahead if there are charges.

Wow. When the cops willingly admit they don't feel bad for a cop who was shot.... you know the guy is really a jerk.

Toronto Star

Cop who was shot; his own brother says he has 'bad blood with the world', he is 'violent' and demonstrated rage when growing up'.

Yet they gave him a badge and a gun.

Rosie DiManno article.

From the article mentioned above -

“Nathan Parker is no innocent person,” his brother Phillip Parker told the Star on Sunday. “I can tell you … that if he got shot, it’s because he made the other person fear for his life. He’s a frightening person.”

Officer shot in Niagara had ‘bad blood with the world,’ brother says | The Star

The article includes an analysis of how ineffective a police tribunal is - so it's a known fact but no one steps up and does anything about it.

Put the discipline of police in the hands of a civilian body, not in the hands of police. Currently what we have is, police playing investigator, judge and jury when policing themselves. It's always been trouble - too much power in the hands of police with the public pushed out of the equation.

Holy moly his own brother is bagging on him as a bad human being and his “brothers in arms” think he’s a big bully d-bag too. I feel sorry for Donovan bc even if this ends up in his favour, it will be long sketchy and drawn out since it’s here in Canada & he will inevitably feel the effects of this situation forever. Seems like he’s got nude photos or some other form of blackmail on some higher up to have lasted years and years past his initial violent outbursts.

Niagara cop hit with six or seven bullets from colleague’s firearm: Source
"A Niagara Regional Police officer shot by a fellow cop was hit with six or seven bullets during an altercation between the two, sources told The Toronto Sun.

Bullets struck Const. Nathan Parker’s heel, upper leg and his shoulder. Three rounds landed or deflected off his bullet-proof vest while another round tore off a portion of his nose.

It’s believed the gun was fired in close proximity to the officer, who survived the barrage of bullets because of his bulletproof vest, say sources. It’s possible the two officers were fighting over the firearm."

"The shooting followed a heated argument between Parker and Donovan about the reconstructionist work being done at an impaired driving collision, according to sources.

Parker, who was supposed to be guarding the scene during the reconstruction, had left the scene for a bathroom break but his absence was perceived as extraordinarily long. When he radioed that he was returning to duty, he was told: “Don’t bother.” Parker became infuriated and conflict escalated, sources said."

This version does not help Parker in any way imo.

So Parker had left the scene then radioed in he was on his way back. He was told don't bother to return but did anyway - in an angry manner.
By returning, he will be seen as the aggressor imo. The comments by Parker's brother on his history are pretty damning, as well as his history of aggression towards the public. Combined - a bombshell. Jmo.

Regarding the number of bullets and where they hit, from the same article above -

Bullets struck Const. Nathan Parker’s heel, upper leg and his shoulder. Three rounds landed or deflected off his bullet-proof vest while another round tore off a portion of his nose.

You don't see that sort of bullet pattern very often imo. Definitely sounds like a scuffle was underway when all shots were fired, and that Donovan had drawn his weapon before Parker lunged at him. Parker lunged anyway?

Did Parker take some steroids during this lengthy break he was on? According to Parker's brother from an article a few posts back, it's been his drug of choice since his teens.

Parker is some lucky that shot to the nose only took part of it off - if it was fired straight on it would have been lights out if not game over. Looking forward to blood test results and Parker's version of events.

Another one!
Peel officer suspended after fight leaves superior officer bloodied - CityNews Toronto
"For the second time in two weeks, a violent incident involving two police officers has resulted in serious injury and an investigation.

A Peel Regional police officer has been suspended following an altercation back on Dec. 9 after a superior officer, a sergeant, questioned the officer’s fitness for duty.

The officer presented the sergeant with results of a breathalyser test and a fight ensued in which the constable punched the sergeant, which resulted in a bloody nose."
"The province’s Special Investigations Unit has not been called in to investigate as the incident did not result in “serious injury.”

Just saw that.....astonishing that they get suspended 'with pay'! Wrong, so wrong.

My goodness it sounds like they need to do some housecleaning in that department.

What's happening with this case? Not a peep from the SIU?

Det. Shane Donovan has been charged with Attempted Murder, Assault with a Weapon and Aggravated Assault for discharging his weapon at Constable Parker.

He will be in court on April 18.
