Found Deceased Canada - Norah, 11 & Romy Carpentier, 6, Quebec, 9 July 2020 *father died of suicide*

If you go to the TVA nouvelles report which includes the video from M. Martineau, his FB account is linked at bottom left of the video screen.

I don’t think we can link directly here because he’s just a bystander & it’s his personal page.
Cannot access fb, but curious if it gives any hint as to the father's state of mind and occupation ?

Not at all. It’s short video recordings of police activities from a bystander who happens to live very locally to what is happening. The gentleman in question (the bystander) seems to have stopped updating.

I could surmise that it’s possible he’s been asked/told to stop, or that the public (there were quite a few “randoms” hanging around, including children) have been moved away.

Lots of chatter in comments but nothing worth noting/remarking on. Yet.

I’m actually quite appalled at the number of children present at the search. It really stood out to
me on those videos

So am I :(.

The latest update I’m seeing from TVA/LCN is linked below.

I’m NOT going to do a translation/transcript of the video report because I’m quite [VERY]annoyed with them/the reporter’s sensationalism . I’ll summarize it as being a whole lot of waffle & fluff about “I’ve heard, it seems, there are rumours that... (the suspect may have been seen)”... but nothing concrete. JMO.

There is a map of the sector being searched.

yeah I'm really annoyed at those adults who brought their children to witness possible trauma/tragedy/criminal activity

Mods....does it make sense to add "Active Search" to the title, since there is a manhunt underway? Not sure how this works. Thanks.

Aperçu dans un boisé, la Sûreté du Québec poursuit ses recherches pour retrouver Martin Carpentier

The area where they are searching. (South of the TransCanada Highway and East of Saint Apollinaire.)

Also they seem to imply a specific sighting of the suspect (google translate again):
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has confirmed to continue its research to find it. He was also seen by the police earlier in the evening, but could not be intercepted.

ETA: and watching the live (?) video on TVA, there was a banner that said that LE had seen the suspect in the early evening.
(It's definitely confusing as to what is true and what is not. It doesn't help that I don't speak french so am likely messing some interpretations up.)

I’ve been thinking of Norah and Romy ever since we got the Amber alert ( I’m in Ontario ) and prayed they would be found safe- RIP angels !

I speak French so I’ll happily translate for the English speakers. I watched an 11 min video from one of the links posted here and it just seems that there was a witness who had a 2 second interaction with a man who looked like Carpentier outside his house . Once they locked eyes, he said that the man who looked like the suspect ran back into the wooded area he came out from.

Police searched the area and they didn’t make an arrest but they think it is very likely that the suspect is still in the area.

Lots of word on social media right now that there is an extensive search overnight with 300+ people.

Local media reporting that the suspect’s father owns woodlots in the region and that Carpentier is very familiar with the area.

This isn’t a national forest for crying at loud. If he has been spotted jumping in and out of the woods then I don’t understand why the SQ can’t get a handle on him. There are woods in the area yes but with 300 + volunteers in a not so large area they should have a handle on him. I’m
Already not a huge fan of the SQ or any Quebec police force to be honest and this sure isn’t helping.

100% agree! I feel like they could find him tonight with helicopters and thermal imaging.

They’re now telling the 300+ people helping with the search to go home to help them do their job. Hoping they find him and bring him to justice soon.

So he many not even still be in the area. <sigh>

Maybe, maybe not :(. It’s hard to know what to think, or what to speculate. I have some - limited - personal experience of missing person searches in Quebec. In my personal experience, the SQ are quite good at what they do, but searching even a “small” area of woodland/forest can be incredibly difficult, even with helicopters & trained SAR/trackers.

I’m not going to bash the SQ search(ers), this is no longer a missing persons case. We have 2 dead children in nebulous (at the very least!) circumstances, and an adult - their father - who if still alive somewhere, seems to be on the run.

ETA: forgot to add that the SQ, rightly or wrongly, are often very parsimonious with info & updates when this kind of search (for a suspect, rather than a missing person) is happening. And I don’t think the QC media is helping in this particular instance :(.

It has been a while since the suspect stopped for ice cream, if he is still alive, he will be hungry and looking for food.
Wondering if he might dodge getting recognized, if he puts on a face mask and goes into a busy fast food restaurant? speculation.

I’ll try and find it again, but in one of the media reports* linked here a couple of days ago, he made a (confirmed by LE) stop after ice cream purchase at a convenience store (dépanneur) where he purchased “snacks” & water.

*This info was in a video & not detailed in the accompanying text report.
