WIKWEMIKONG, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police have issued an emergency alert asking residents of Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin Island to stay inside as they search for a person they believe to be “armed and dangerous.”

The OPP say they are looking for 39-year-old Luke Naokeegijig, who is described as a six-foot-one male of average build, with long black hair, brown eyes and a moustache, last seen wearing black jeans and a camouflage sweater.

The provincial police force is asking the public to lock all doors and windows, and notify police of any suspicious persons.

The OPP has not said why they believe the suspect is dangerous.''

''Police say they continue to search for a man considered armed and dangerous on Manitoulin Island.

Ontario Provincial Police confirm they are looking for 39-year-old Luke Naokeegijig. He is described as 6’1 with long black hair, a mustache and brown eyes. The emergency alert earlier today said he could be wearing a camouflage sweater and black jeans.''

''The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued an emergency alert Tuesday afternoon warning people in Wiikwemkoong First Nation, on Manitoulin Island, to lock their doors and windows, and shelter in place.

Police said in the alert that a man in the community is considered armed and dangerous.

In a Facebook update, acting Wikwemikong Tribal Police Chief Scott Cooper said they do not consider the man a threat to the general public, but recommend people continue to shelter in place "with the ultimate safety for all in mind."

Wondering why a pic of the wanted man has not been released afaik?

''WIIKWEMIKOONG - Schools are closed today in Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin Island as a stay-at-home order remains in effect while police continue to search for a person they believe to be “armed and dangerous.”

In a signed letter posted online Tuesday night, Chief Rachel Manitowabi of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory says council endorsed a recommendation from the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education to give all students a mental health day as the police investigation enters a second day.''

C'mon, @dotr. They've described Luke Naokeegijig as a 39-year-old man who is 6’1 with long black hair, a mustache and brown eyes likely wearing a camouflage sweater and black jeans. Do you really need a pic to recognize him? :p;)

Seriously, my guess is LE doesn't want to risk any members of the public confronting Luke if they happen to cross paths with him. Although they could just publish his photo on a BOLO saying "DO NOT APPROACH", "CONTACT LE IMMEDIATELY" or something similar. I'd suggest they should consider "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE" but he's not a threat even though he's "armed and dangerous" and they've closed schools and recommended a shelter in place? o_O What's going on here?

Great news!!

SBBM

Chief Rachel Manitowabi says the man turned himself in “safely and peacefully” on Wednesday. Manitowabi says the community is “very fortunate that no one was harmed.” [snip] The provincial police force had not said why they believed the suspect is dangerous.
