'A man’s body part was reportedly recovered Sunday afternoon from the banks of the Rivière des Prairies in Montreal North. Montreal Police (SPVM), however, did not specify which body part it was.

According to SPVM spokesperson Annie-Claude Racine, emergency services were called to the scene around 3 p.m. regarding an inert human body part found along the Rivière des Prairies, not far from the intersection of Albert Brosseau Blvd. and Drapeau Avenue.'

'Montreal police (SPVM) was called to the scene near the intersection of Albert-Brosseau Boulevard and Drapeau Avenue at 3 p.m.
Investigators, including a K9 unit, have established a large perimeter to search for the rest of the body.
It is unclear at this point how long the body was there, nor how the person died.'

I've seen cases of bodies not intact after being in water. It could be a self-harm/drowning victim who has been in the water for awhile. I'm not ready to jump to any conclusions about a gruesome crime...yet.

''Other North Montrealers living near the Rivière des Prairies were less surprised than Mr. Maisonneuve.

Because, several times a year, drowned people are fished out of these waters by the authorities, sadly pointed out Richard Dumont, a 62-year-old man who has lived in the neighbourhood since birth.
"But this time, I suspected that it was a little different because the police have been there much longer than usual," he commented, noting that "Montreal North has become more difficult."

A security perimeter has been established along the Rivière des Prairies, along Albert-Brosseau Boulevard, between Drapeau and Henrietta streets. The police were still investigating there after sunset.''
'At this stage, it is too early to determine if this is a criminal act.'

When I was searching earlier, within a couple of minutes I found two other bodies found in the area, one June 2025, and one in December 2024. There may be others.

Poster @Inthedetails was correct.
''The human head recovered Sunday afternoon from the banks of the Rivière des Prairies in Montreal North, was that of a 40-year-old man.

Montreal Police (SPVM) confirmed the news on Tuesday and said they are ruling foul play out of this case.
According to authorities, the man allegedly took his own life.''

I first thought you were out physically searching!

Couldn’t find any recent missing persons reports for 40-year-old men in the area.
I’m glad he was identified. There are still UPs found decades ago in that river and others around Montréal.

RIP
