CANADA Canada - Rene Gunning, 19 & Krystle Knott, 16, Edmonton, 18 Feb 2005

<rsbm>

Sadly, I've never learned how to post a screenshot, but both google and bing satellite images show very clearly that if you are going westbound on Hwy 43, you turn left at Goodwin Corner, crossing the eastbound lane, right onto Forestry Trunk Rd. It appears to be quite a wide, well-used gravelled swath, (but what appears to be gravel could be distortion from zooming in so close).

Now this is something that I can do and have been a little busy isolating where I think the exact spot (or near to) where Rene and Krystle were found. I will later on today/tomorrow do some screen shots of what you described above at the Goodwin Corner (I have done a satellite view so know what you are talking about). Here is the spot where our girls were found as near as I can determine:

The coordinates that you can put into Google maps is:

55° 7'52.93"N
118°11'18.66"W

And here is a screenshot of this exact coordinate marked with a yellow push pin.

Showing a view on regular Google maps when coordinates 55° 7'52.93"N
118°11'18.66"W are put into the search bar. When I blow up this area I am seeing a small road off Forestry Trunk Rd which looks like it could have been used to pull off the main road and used as the final destination for Rene and Krystle.

The more I am looking and analyzing the more I am beginning to think that it was somebody who knew the area very, very well and that a smaller vehicle than a semi was used to transport the girls.

As near as I can determine (and am still looking/reviewing) we do not have a cause of death published yet to the public so we do not know how Rene and Krystle died. Please, if anybody has seen COD published, please let me know so I don't burn out my eyes trying to find it.

The other thing I want to know is what was the temperature and weather conditions on that fateful night? Does anybody know this or I can try to find some archives of weather conditions.

Also, I have seen it reported that Krystle had called her father that same night and said she was coming home - do any of you know the time that this call was placed to her father as I have not seen anything on the time yet.

IMO a timeline is important to establish. Also, are we able to get at any of the police files to see what they have investigated or have any of these been released?

IMO somebody knew this area very, very well.

Can't find any record at Environment Canada for either Dubolt or Goodwin Corner, so went with Grande Prairie. Historical data for Feb 18 2005 shows:

Min -5.4
Max -12.9
Mean -9.2

3 cm snow on the ground

It was fairly warm for being February, probably no colder than -15? There was snow but not a whole bunch.I never heard of krystle calling her dad can you post where you seen that please?

Elepher, just a bit north of where you've got the pin, there's a large area on the west side of FTR that appears to have small roads like little cul-de-sacs, so i'm thinking that would be the campsites within the Simonette River Provincial Recreation area (which is apparently 10 km south of Hwy 43). IIRC, the girls' remains were not found in a conventional camping site, and as there was a moose carcass in close proximity, hunting wouldn't be taking place in a provincial park. Just considering the possibility of bush parties / winter camping, etc.

I think you could be right with the pin, and am just throwing some snippets into the convo ... may be meaningless right now, but to keep in mind for down the road.

Sure can:

It was Feb. 18, 2005 when Krystle Ann Julie Knott phoned her father in Dawson Creek, B.C. after she had run away from home, informing him she was at West Edmonton Mall and needed a lift.

Instead of contacting other relatives to come get her, Goulet said Knott and another girl she had just met — 19-year-old Rene Lynn Gunning — decided to thumb a ride back to B.C.

ETA: This is a very interesting article and would recommend a read of it - regarding the Knott family saying Krystle was never missing and was living in FSJ. I find that a bit strange - and yes, I have become a bit skeptical of folks after being on WS for a few years now.

Yet another story I hadn't read.Police are so elusive here, they never told me any of this and lead me to believe we were the last people to speak with them alive. This makes me feel a little better guilt wise.Thank you for posting elepher :)

I had never read this before, now I wish I hadn't,especially since it had that beautiful girls photo. This makes me ill reading all the disgusting details, and I'm now hoping to GOD it wasn't joe who got a hold of them that sick f*ck.
Thankfully,it now seems inconsistent with his style,The skulls were found intact as far as I was told and he apparently likes to beat them in so now I feel even more strongly that it was not him.

Yes, all 5 of them I believe it was are sick f*cks!

I truly do not believe that you and friend were the last ones of either friends or family to speak with Rene and Krystle - I think they were burning up the phone wires. And, I have a sneaking suspicion (MOO) that they were not hitchhiking either but rather were picked up by someone they knew at the mall.

eleph (and by the way, I am wrong sometimes with my hunches so don't take any of my hunches as a good thing to go by = challenge them please)

Hi SB,

Good to be working with you again friend. Can you confirm that this is the place where you think it would be possibly used for bush parties/winter camping?

55° 9'8.84"N
118°11'25.63"W

And to truly prove how ignorant and uninformed I am what is a bush party?

Thanks elepher, and back at ya !! :) Wish we could crack something in this case. Rene and Krystle should be here, having romances, looking after babies, jobs, a whole lifetime. Instead, some SOB left them to rot in a bush.

The above co-ordinates you posted are not where I see the campground. Those coordinates are north of where the FTR crosses the Simonette River, but the area I see is south of where the FTR crosses the river (so just a bit north of the last location you showed with a pin)

Bush parties? Dang elepher ... they are parties in the bush :woohoo:

Okay, usually a bunch of young peeps, lots of booze, drugs, sex :what:

Sounds like my kind of party ..... as long as it wasn't -20 something. Just trying to visualize having sex in that much cold and it isn't a pretty sight .....:floorlaugh:

You just a young'un ... I use software called SnagIt and it works great. Easy to use and is very versatile for adding notes, etc.
