Adam Strong charged with 1st-degree murder in deaths of Rori Hache, Kandis Fitzpatrick
Nov 8, 2018

(video)

"For Rori Hache's mother this has been a long time coming...
"What can I say, I didn't to this, this is the work of the Durham Regional Police
and the Homicide Investigative Team." ...
... Shannon Dionne says she still has no idea what happened to her daughter
..."I don't know anything but I think that it's probably the
worst case scenario that any parent could ever visualize
in their head, and uhm, just for that, just for, just for having to think these thoughts for 17 months in my head, uhm I don't think there will be much that will come as a surpise to me at this point in time."

...

"Rori's family still does not know how she met AS.
One of her best friends took a photo, just obtained
by Global News, showing Rori and her freinds standing
here in front of this vaccant lot in August 2016,
where at the time the Movie 'It' was being filmed.
Months after AS was arrested the friend noticed that
he is in the background of the picture.
Strong worked
here on the movie set as a security guard."

Is that photo posted in the media anywhere? I don't see the quote or photo at the link so maybe they edited the story.

Adam Strong makes another brief court appearance to the dismay of Hache supporters

Adam Strong makes another brief court appearance to the dismay of Hache supporters

November 30, 2018

"On Friday, he appeared in court by video. …
Friday’s brief court appearance didn’t sit well with one of Hache’s supporters, as she stormed out of the courtroom in frustration.

This is our 22nd appearance at court and I think Rori’s support team is getting frustrated. They’re tired. This is hard on all of us like you can’t even imagine — ripping a scab off every time we come here and we have outbursts. We’re human beings. I don’t know if anyone was in the courtroom but there are a lot of things for us to go through and it’s shredding us day by day,” said Shanan Dionne, Rori’s Mother.

Strong’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 14.“

Crown produces thousands of pages of evidence in case of accused Oshawa killer Adam Strong

November 30, 2018

"Prosecutors have handed over thousands of pages of disclosure to lawyers for Adam Strong, the Oshawa man charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of two young women who went missing in the city a decade apart.

Strong, 46, made an appearance via video link in Oshawa court Friday morning, Nov. 30. It was his first court appearance since early November, when he was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Rori Hache, 18, who went missing in the summer of 2017, and Kandis Fitzpatrick, also 18, who disappeared in 2008."

"Friday in court, prosecutor Kent Saliwonchyk handed over a computer hard drive to lawyer Justin Guile, who appeared on behalf of Strong’s counsel Tom Balka. The drive contains some 8,000 pages of evidence relevant to
the case, Saliwonchyk said.

Strong is scheduled to make another video appearance on Dec. 14. No date for his trial has been set."

“At this stage Mr. Balka has the majority of the disclosure,” the prosecutor said.

"Fitzpatrick, who is also from Oshawa, has been missing for a decade and would have turned 29 years old this year. Police say they consider her Durham Region’s 10th homicide victim of 2018.

Strong’s judicial pre-trial will be a meeting involving his lawyer, Tom Balka, as well as the Crown to sort out any legal and procedural issues before the trial officially begins.

They are urging anyone with information about Hache or Fitzpatrick’s cases to call the Major Crimes — Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5407/5325.

Anyone who would like to send information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward."

Year in review: Many twists and turns in Adam Strong case
“I’m disturbed by what I’ve seen in the courtroom, that man has no emotion,” Dionne said, speaking to reporters outside the courthouse. “You would think he was here for running over a kid’s basketball, that’s the empathy he has for what he’s done.”
"During his latest court appearance on Dec. 14, 2018, Strong was remanded into custody until Feb. 28, 2019, when he will have a pre-trial hearing."

UPDATE — Adam Strong one step closer to trial in Oshawa murders

one step closer to trial in Oshawa murders

Oshawa man facing first-degree murder charges in deaths of Rori Hache and Kandis Fitzpatrick.

Mar 22, 2019

"OSHAWA – The case of a man accused of murdering two young women almost a decade apart in Oshawa will proceed directly to Superior Court, a prosecutor announced Friday.

The province’s Attorney general has approved a direct indictment for Adam
Strong, prosecutor Kent Saliwonchyk said as Strong made a brief appearance via video in a remand court at the Oshawa courthouse March 15.

The direct indictment means Strong’s case will proceed to trial in Superior Court without a preliminary hearing in a lower court. During preliminary hearings the Crown presents its evidence through witnesses and a judge rules on whether the case ought to proceed on to trial.

...................

"Friday Saliwonchyk would not comment on why a direct indictment had been issued in Strong’s case, but agreed it could expedite the matter. He said the Crown’s office in Durham Region initiated the process.

“The direct indictment was granted at the Crown’s request,” Saliwonchyk said."

"Welcoming the development was Hache’s mother, Shanan Dionne.

“I know this is helping to get things going for the girls,” she said, referring to the victims. “Hopefully they can finally be put to rest.
Dionne noted that since Strong’s arrest she has attended in excess of 30 court appearances.

“It’s hard on everybody,” she said.

Strong is scheduled to have a pretrial hearing May 1 in Superior Court.”

Trial for Adam Strong, accused in two Oshawa murders, not likely until late 2020

Trial for Adam Strong, accused in two Oshawa murders, not likely until late 2020

May 01, 2019

"murdering two young women almost a decade apart in Oshawa is not likely to go to trial until at least late 2020, a court heard Wednesday.

And when Adam Strong’s trial on two counts of first-degree murder does occur, it will take months to complete, according to lawyers involved in the case.

Judicial pretrial sessions began May 1 for Strong, who is accused of first-degree murder in the deaths of Rori Hache, who went missing in the summer of 2017, and Kandis Fitzpatrick, who was last seen in 2008.

Those discussions indicated two prominent points: pretrial motions, which typically focus on the admissibility of evidence and would occur prior to Strong’s trial, will not begin at least until mid-September of 2020, his defence lawyer, Tom Balka, confirmed.

Lawyers have also put forth an estimated trial time of five months, Balka said.

... Strong’s case is due back in court May 28."

I haven't seen any MSM updates if AS appeared in court today. I am curious if the prosecution will provide some evidence at the hearing of how AS met Rori and Kandis. LE so far has only revealed that the remains of Rori and Kandis were found in AS apartment.
