Circumstances of Disappearance:
Hardy's last known sighting was in Vancouver, British Columbia on January 8th, 1998. She had picked up her methadone prescription and has never been heard from again. She had been in regular contact with her family until 1997, but was not reported missing until 2002.

At the time of her disappearance, Hardy was living a high risk lifestyle in the Downtown Eastside area in Vancouver. She was struggling with drug addiction and may have had ties to sex trafficking. Authorities suspect she may have been a victim of serial killer Robert Pickton. Few details are available regarding her disappearance and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Details About Ruby’s Case: Ruby is from the Biinjitwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek First Nation, also known as the Rocky Bay First Nation in Ontario. Ruby was last seen on January 8, 1998 on Vancouver’s East side. She was reported missing by her brother on March 27, 2002. Ruby was a sex worker at the time of her disappearance and had struggles with addiction. It is also alleged that Ruby has ties to sex trafficking.

Additional Information: Ruby remains missing and went missing during the time period when Robert Pickton was active. It does not appear that Ruby’s DNA was found on the farm

The passing years haven’t dimmed a mother’s hope that her missing daughter will be found.
Violet Garreau of Thunder Bay continues to believe her daughter, Ruby Anne Hardy (also known as Ruby Galloway), may still be alive. Hardy, 37, was last seen in 1998 and reported missing to Vancouver Police on March 27, 2002. In 2002, her name was added to the list of women missing from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Garreau said: “There’s no evidence she’s one of the people (who were killed)… I won’t ever give up hope. I’m going to hold up hope until it’s proven otherwise.”
At the time of the article, police had laid additional murder charges against pig farmer Robert Pickton. Garreau expressed frustration that Vancouver Police had not contacted her before the announcement, noting they usually call families to lessen the impact.
Garreau speculated her daughter’s struggles with addiction may have led her to withdraw from family contact. Hardy had three children: Crystal (23), Candice (18), and Troy, who was adopted.
Her husband Jack was more cautious, saying: “She called regularly for five years and then the calls stopped. The rumour was there was bad stuff going on out there. People disappeared off the face of the earth. I do hope she’s still alive but I do have my doubts.”
The RCMP Missing Women’s Task Force visited Thunder Bay in 2004 to collect DNA samples and update the family, reminding them they had not been forgotten.
