Thank-you for posting this bluesneakers - was tempted but not sure how it would go ever here. A little housecleaning on the go at TPS - and very much related to Forcillo's conviction imo. The good news from this verdict is, the public has spoken it's displeasure in some behavior and it is being taken seriously.

Another officer was charged a day or two ago with discharging his firearm 14 times at the hood of someones stationary vehicle on 16 Sep 2015. Not sure if the officer was po'd at the vehicle or who was in it. Pretty sure the vehicle did not survive but the charges are not criminal - he will face a tribunal of some sort.

Unacceptable in a country with serious firearm restrictions. All jmo.

I wonder about Saunders' rating and how not being Blair affects it.

Good question - the poll started at 78% approval when deliberations began (which surprised me) - because Blair is gone? Idk.

I fully agree with everything SB said in this interview (article linked above) -

“I couldn’t imagine that the defence team (would) mention that after the first volley, after the first three bullets, that my son (was) paralyzed, and the second (round of gunshots) it doesn’t matter, he doesn’t feel anything because he’s paralyzed,” she said.

“I felt they were insulting my son.”

...

Bahadi said she has struggled with how Forcillo could be found guilty of attempted murder for his actions which left her he son dead.

It was a 🤬🤬🤬🤬-eyed verdict by the jury - imo they tried to compromise between a cop and the illegal act of murder. There is no compromise nor should there be. This jury did open the door though for a murder conviction next time - I'm thankful for that.

A lawyer for Toronto Const. James Forcillo appeared in a Toronto courtroom Thursday afternoon to outline his case for appealing the officer's conviction for the attempted murder of Sammy Yatim, the 18-year-old shot dead aboard a streetcar in July 2013.
Forcillo was sentenced to six years in prison earlier today.

Arguing before Justice Eileen E. Gillese in the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Michael Lacy described the conviction as "unprecedented."
He also sought bail for Forcillo, describing him as an ideal candidate who poses no risk to the community, while arguing this was not a case of "gratuitous" murder. ...

James Forcillo arrested by Toronto police for allegedly breaching bail terms

Const. James Forcillo, the Toronto police officer convicted in the 2013 shooting death of Sammy Yatim, was arrested by Toronto police on Wednesday for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

Monica Hudon, spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), said Forcillo had violated a number of bail conditions relating to his house arrest.

Forcillo appeared in the Finch Avenue West courthouse on Wednesday. While the charges won't affect his appeal, Crown lawyer Susan Reid said in an email to CBC Toronto that a review of Forcillo's current bail conditions have been put over until Friday. He will remain in police custody until then.

Court dismisses Const. James Forcillo's appeal of conviction in Sammy Yatim case

An Ontario court has dismissed Toronto police Const. James Forcillo's appeal of his conviction in the shooting death of 18-year-old Sammy Yatim.

In 2016, the trial judge sentenced Forcillo to six years in prison for attempted murder following an unusual verdict by the jury.

It found Forcillo not guilty of second-degree murder, but guilty of attempted murder, in the death of the 18-year-old who was holding a knife inside an empty streetcar in the early morning hours of July 27, 2013.
