48-Year-Old Shirley Ann Waquan Reported Missing in Fort McMurray 9 Years Ago

Fort McMurray, Alberta – The Wood Buffalo RCMP and family are asking for the public’s assistance in helping to locate a missing 48-year-old female. Shirley Ann Waquan was last seen on July 1st, 2007, in the downtown area of Fort McMurray, but was also known to visit Edmonton, Alberta. Police are continuing to investigate her disappearance. Today marks the ninth year anniversary of Shirley being reported missing.

Shirley is described as:
• First Nations
• 48 years old
• Approximately 5’3” tall, weighing 198 pounds
• Brown hair, Brown eyes
• Having a tattoo on her right wrist that says “SHIRL”
• Missing several teeth

RCMP ask for help in solving 2007 disappearance

Sgt. Jack Poitras, a spokesperson with RCMP's K Division, says an investigator was recently speaking with Waquan's family, and is hoping reposting details of Waquan will help anyone familiar with the case remember any overlooked details.

"They were thinking there's no other way to help find closure to what happened," said Poitras. "When it's been this long and nothing has come up, it's good to bring the case back to the public's attention to see if anyone suddenly remembers something they overlooked before."

Shirley Ann Waquan was last seen in downtown Fort McMurray on Canada Day of 2007, the 48-year-old was reported missing four days later on Jul. 5.

Mounties continue to investigate her disappearance and note she was also known to frequent Edmonton.
