My cousin in law came up from Moncton over the weekend to get away and decompress. Sunday she slept the entire day...even as a civilian I think those few days were so stressful and can't imagine what it was like for LE. Hoping the healing process can begin

Hope your relatives are finding some solace in the support of knowing that there is a great deal of support and love being sent there was from coast to coast.

The court case should go fairly smoothly yet we know the wheels of the court system can move very slowly. That will be nerve racking for sure.

"Slain Moncton RCMP officer's dog to get new handler"

"Danny grabbed Canadians' attention Tuesday when he could be heard crying at the regimental funeral service for the officers in Moncton. Ross' wife Rachael Ross said she wants Danny to continue his work.

"Anytime Danny barked at home, it would be to get Dave to open the truck door so they could go to work," she said. "It wouldn't be fair to Danny to retire him as he loved his work as much as Dave did."

I am so glad you posted this - I have seen the youtube of Danny having a blast in a creek today.

Animals do grieve and that's the part that really spoke to so many of us. It's so reassuring to read that so many people were touched by seeing Danny in the ceremony.

We all know that animals are a great judge of character too so the bonding that he had with Ross speaks volumes about his character as a person.

Danny serves us all of a reminder that horrible things happen to the best of people sometimes.

Danny is two months away from his 3rd birthday...he's got a lot of energy and the rebonding and new training is a wonderful idea for such a young dog.

I'm happy to hear Danny will continue on. He is so young. Dave's work will continue thru Danny. It's all so gut wrenching. I guess we forget and many times never know that a pet also is suffering loss.

Bourque HAD his weapons ready until he dropped them. He didn't 'surrender' the way we think.

Christie Blatchford: Bourque trying to lure police into ambush as he was captured, officer says

He saw an IR (infra red) beam cast by the plane in the general area where Mr. Bourque was. He checked again, and sure enough, that’s what it was.

He pointed out the spot to the team, the officer says, and in the open braced himself and shouted, “Police!” as they all flipped on the big lights at the end of their guns.

“A pair of hands came up,” the officer says, “and Justin Bourque called out, ‘Don’t shoot, don’t shoot! I’m coming out!’”

And that’s when he dropped his guns.

The now-famous “I’m done” line Mr. Bourque issued came a moment later, “when he got to the grass. … It was a desperate plea not to be shot in the face, not the comment of a man walking out because he was finished making his point.”

bbm.
"In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Ms. Bourque said her 24-year-old brother’s troubles began around age 19, when he started drinking heavily. “It did a lot of damage to his brain,” she said. “He used to be a really sharp person. As the years went by, the more damage was caused. He just wasn’t the same.”

The 25-year-old woman also spoke about how her loved ones are faring, and about the outpouring of support from those trying to reconcile the accusations against Mr. Bourque with a family many have described as “good” and “warm.”

Ms. Bourque said “a lot of things” led to her brother’s arrest, including past alcohol and drug use.

“He got fired from his job after he left our home [about two years ago], and then he lost his car. Things weren’t going good with girls,” she said. “He started reading a lot about conspiracy theories, and he wasn’t as mentally stable as he used to be…. He kind of got paranoid that somebody was going to take his guns away.”

One question in the wake of Moncton massacre: Why?

A team of Maclean’s writers turned to friends, family and social media to chart the downward spiral of the man accused of killing three Mounties"

I have been unable to watch Danny video - would break my heart for the baby.......................

Danny's doing well in the video :) It was GOOD to see him having so much fun.

GSDs are working dogs ... happiest when they have a job to do. Keep them busy, busy ... lots of treats and do the jolly, jolly. He'll be confused for a while and missing his boss during downtime, but his new handler will be watching for all that and making sure any depression doesn't go unattended.

A few months ago, I had to part with my old female GSD. She and the younger male were like Siamese twins. Knowing the inevitable, I was really concerned how he would handle it. We've kept him busy and showered him with a lot of attention and he's doing great. Ya know who had the biggest problem with it all? The cat !!

The country fell in love with Danny ... I hope we get some more updates down the road.

from the McLean article dotr linked

“Ask yourself, would you fight for the future of your children or grandchildren, or your family and friends’ sons and daughters?” he wrote on his Facebook page on April 7, two months before the rampage.

Okay Bourque ... so tell us just how slaughtering 3 brave men, who would have put their lives on the line for you, enhances the future for anyone.

More detail on how the story unfolded during those dreadful hours:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...9214377/?cmpid=rss1&google_editors_picks=true

Couldn't help but notice the small pic on the top left ... 9 brave officers in line outside that wooded area. Each and every one of them could have been gone in a heartbeat, yet there they stand ready to take on whatever could have come their way.

Another salute ... with special thoughts and Thank You to the other two officers who were injured.

Constable Darlene Goguen, who was driving a squad car, was shot a short distance west of where Constable Larche was killed. A police car and SUV arrived soon afterward, and neighbours heard someone yell, “Officer down!” Two officers helped the wounded woman hobble into the SUV.

Constable Eric Dubois was also injured in the June 4 shootings, although the circumstances are unclear.

Thank you for posting this link. My heart broke for the friends, families and officers when this happened. Perpetrators of crime never fully realize the ramifications of their selfish, violent acts. The ripple effect extends far and wide.

I hope that Danny will be able to adjust to his new handler and family. I have 2 GSD and I will never own anything other than GSD. They are so naturally protective and extremely intelligent. Mine are both trained by K9 officers and thankfully are wonderful company and a built in security system. Deer and burglars beware.

http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/moncton-mounties-to-soon-return-to-work-after-deadly-shootings-1.1880106

Approximately 141 officers will be phased back into active duty in the coming days after two weeks on personal leave granted in the wake of the shooting rampage that left three of their colleagues dead...

After the shootings, Codiac police officers were encouraged to seek psychological counselling during their time off.

As Codiac took time to heal, police from other jurisdictions stepped in to provide day-to-day law enforcement services. Those officers will now return to their home detachments.
