GUILTY Canada - Taylor Van Diest, 18, beaten to death, Armstrong, BC, 31 Oct 2011

It's so ironic she had a phone and could have used it to text for help or call 911. This person must have been right on her if she was not able to do so.

She left home at 5:50 and sent a text to her bf stating, "I'm being creeped" at 6:00pm.. It's stated that the walk from Taylor's home to this section of tracks commonly used takes 10mins.. So, therefor it's likely that IMMEDIATELY(meaning within literal seconds to no more than 1-2mins) after sending bf the text at 6pm she was attacked.. That wouldve been 10mins from the time she left her home at 5:50pm therefor at 6pm would be the exact 10mins it would take to get to this exact area of the tracks where she was attacked and found unconscious..*

That to me fits perfectly and IMO likely means she was attacked mere 10mins after leaving her home.. I know that I read a portion in an article that's linked here of a local who was out with their children trick or treating, I suppose.. And she stated they all had gone to the station and been thoroughly questioned for a good bit of time by LE.. If I'm not mistaken this family(mother in particular that was quoted in the article) saw Taylor during this small window of time(5:50-6:00).. But ATLEAST from what she stated to reporters there was nothing of significance that she saw, heard, or recalled.. I'll have to search back thru my browser history from last night to see exactly what article this info was in..

IMO if this family didn't see ANYONE suspicious then I feel it's very likely THAT THERE HAS GOT TO BE SOMEONE WHO DID.. take for instance the woman and daughter that had walked thru this exact path of tracks seemingly during the exact time in question.. I feel that someone saw something that they just are not aware is related to Taylor.. The reason I feel so strongly is BECAUSE TAYLOR, HERSELF NOT ONLY SAW/NOTICED THIS PERSON(S), BUT WAS VERY AWARE OF THEIR PRESENCE AND UNEASY FROM HER INTUITION TELLING HER SOMETHING WAS UP.. TO THE POINT SHE TEXTS STATING SUCH.. If not for that text sent from Taylor to her bf at exactly the time of 6pm and That just happens to perfectly correlate with the distance traveled from her home that she would have been in this exact area of the tracks(or extreme close proximity) that it seems the attack occurred and literally within mere moments of the text being sent.. If not for that detail of her sending the text I would not feel so very strongly that someone did in fact see someone(s) and just may not know yet that it's related to Taylor's attack..*

But with us knowing for absolute fact that Taylor saw and was aware as well as uneasy that the person(s) were near her at the time of 6pm IMO the chances are extremely great that there have to be ATLEAST 1 other that also saw the person(s) at/or around 6pm .. As well as in hearing from locals that this part of the tracks was a fairly common walk thru of locals I'd say it's also very likely someone unknowingly saw the murderer(s) immediately after the attack as they fled from this area of the tracks!!

Of all night's I would think this one in particular that this murderer(s) could not have escaped having been seen prior to, or immediately after(or God forbid while in the act a child saw something and in terror has not told what they saw..[that's a stretch I know]).. but I do find it 100% IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE PERP TO NOT HAVE BEEN SEEN AND NOTICED!!.. Yes, I realize they very likely were thoroughly disguised in costume but IMO Taylor was not the only female on the streets that evening.. And I know that us women have a very keen sense of intuition and guttural instinct.. We know Taylor's was piqued and she texted about it.. My intuition tells me that the vibe coming off of this murderer, both before and after, would have been felt and picked up on by others.. That's what they need to focus on as well with their being no leads at the moment.. Have people in these areas of town to go back to that night and think about who all and what all they saw or came into contact with!! I promise you that someone else(IMO likely another female's) intuition and gut instinct was piqued by this perp and the uneasiness was felt when they saw or came in contact with him/them at some point that night.. If those individuals could come forward and just give a description of the costume the person was wearing that they may have felt that gut instinct about.. That alone could/would lead to a huge break in the case.. Because if there was more than one person who came forward just think about that they could very likely give the same costume description.. Thus really making some progress.. But if even just one person came forward with a description of the costume that this person they felt uneasy was wearing.. That alone could be huge and definitely very likely end up helping to find who it is that's committed this heinous crime..

Just some thoughts I have about the case.. I definitely believe this will be solved.. Jmo, tho!

I have to wonder if she was already gone with that message was sent. I'm sure the police have dusted the phone for fingerprints. Maybe the killer sent that text to throw people off.. maybe she knew her killer?

bolded and snipped by me.

SmoothOperator, where did you see that the text message was sent at 6:00? The only references I recall indicated that it was sent at 7:30. I think that's why some people are questionning whether Taylor actually sent the text message herself. What happened between 6:00 and 7:30?

I believe SmoothOperator is correct.

7:30 pm is the time when the teenagers that found the cellphone, dialed the "home" number, and Taylor's sister answered the call.

It was badly worded in the news, which didn't make much sense. I am adding [cellphone] so we wont get confused. This is how they reported it:

The next contact Van Diest's family had with her [cellphone] was at 7:30 p.m. when an individual from the community found her phone on the railway tracks

Thanks Hazel. I haven't had a chance to follow the case closely over the past few days. Older timelines mentioned 7:30 as the time of the text message. Do you have a link to the latest timeline?

It certainly would make sense if she sent the text at 6:00, as I had pondered earlier about what she was doing between 6:00 and 7:30.

Snoopster, please read my post, the explanation and the link is in there, and that is how it was originally reported.

(the word [cellphone] was not there, I just added it for clarity)

Since the beginning we knew there was a time gap of 1-1/2 hours from the text to her bf to the last phone call made by the teenagers.
Hope this helps :)

PS: sorry if I write in parts, but there is so much interruption always around here :)

From Hazel's link.
"Her last contact with her family or friends was at 6 p.m. via a text message.

Whoops!! Sorry to all if I added to any confusion. I had lost track of that point. Thanks for setting me straight. (I'm sure my increasingly porous brain couldn't have had any impact on my thinking, or lack thereof! )

The death of a B.C. teen on Halloween was not an isolated case and there could be more violence against women, a letter sent to RCMP says.

On Wednesday, Armstrong RCMP received a letter from someone who took responsibility for the death of 18-year-old Taylor Van Diest.

The letter "suggests possible further violence against women," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a release.

He would not release any more information about the letter: how it was sent, if it was typed or hand-written and whether any fingerprints or other evidence had been gleaned from it.

Taylor’s family was informed of the letter just after it came in Wednesday.

Police are advising residents to travel in groups and youth especially to carry a cellphone, ask friends or family for a ride, travel in areas with good visibility, always let someone know where they are, and report any suspicious activity.

“We are asking that the general public remain vigilant and continue to take extra personal safety precautions in our communities, particularly in the Central and North Okanagan,” Moskaluk said.

He added that such a warning was bound to worry the community, but police deemed it necessary.

“Certainly it has heightened the tension that Armstrong, the community, has experienced so far and continues to experience,” he said.

Police still have not publicized a suspect in the case, but have received about 125 tips to date.

Anyone with information about Van Diest’s murder, or the letter, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Oh my goodness, if this letter is not a hoax- then I hope everyone out there is being cautious and staying in groups-besides it is alot more sociable that way and dare I say, if the perp is a young person, they might prefer to walk alone..jmo

ARMSTRONG, B.C. - Someone claiming to be the killer of a British Columbia teenager has sent a letter to the RCMP containing a chilling threat.

"It suggests the possible further violence against women," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk as he described the letter received Wednesday at the Armstrong, B.C., detachment.

"We're not speculating as to its authenticity. We are simply looking at it to determine who may have sent it. Its contents, syntax, format, how it was received, are all details at this time that we are not divulging publicly."

Police are also asking anyone with information about the letter to call.

"Given (the most recent) development, there is also the possibility that a member of the public may also know more about the letter or its author," the RCMP statement said.

The letter arrived just two days after Van Diest's family held a memorial service for her at an arena.

Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper said Thursday that for residents of the tight-knit community -- who are already on edge after the slaying -- the news of the letter heightens their uneasiness and anxiety.

"It's a real shocker to get something like this," he said. "We're extremely concerned about it.

"This is not a normal case that we're dealing with here now -- it's something a lot more than that."

IMO the letter is an attempt at deflecting suspicion. Which in turn makes me think that this was a specific attack by someone know to Taylor. But, the perp wants it to appear to be random.

"Given [the] developments, there's also the possibility a member of the public may also know more about the letter or its authors," Moskaluk notes. "We are once again asking that anyone with information come forward and speak with the police."

If you know anything about this case, you're asked to call the RCMP or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Armstrong mayor warning community to be careful

The mayor of Armstrong is at a loss for words.

Mayor Chris Pieper is saying that people in Armstrong and the North Okanagan are disturbed by the killing and the letter. Even so, he suggests some people are not taking warnings from police as seriously as they should.

"Some people [are] still walking our streets by themselves. Young women. The caution should be out there for everybody in the North Okanagan. There's somebody that's not quite right around. We have to be careful until they're caught."

But Pieper says he's confident the RCMP will solve the case.

OMG, this is crazy.

If it was someone known to Taylor, I think she would have texted who she thought it was. I'm gonna guess the person was in costume as it was Halloween. I wonder if this person has a fascination with horror movies and crime stories i.e. the Zodiac Killer who also taunted police but wrote letters to the press instead of police. This person was never caught and threatened to commit future crimes as well. The targets weren't women only however.

Locals: who is obsessed with the Zodiac killer and his crimes and may have had a similar costume that night for Halloween?
