I found a couple of possibilities...

NamUs MP255, Patrick Terrence Whalen, missing 20 Nov. 2000 from Glacier Park, Montana
Known to be a survivalist, wore wire-rimmed glasses. The vehicle was found abandoned, and given the distance from Glacier Park to Tobermory (about 2000mi / 3230km, I wouldn't feel confident calling this a match, but who knows.

Doe Network also has an MP, Kenneth James Churney, who was known to smoke Player's Light cigarettes and who was snowmobiling (so I presume he may have had survival gear with him). His date of last contact was 15 March 1997, though, and he was said to be of slim build, so I have trouble believing he would have been wearing a size 3XL vest.

I tried looking at online lists of missing hikers or survivalists, but couldn't find anyone who potentially matched these remains. I also searched NamUs for "cigarettes", but couldn't find any MP who fit this UP very well.
