"The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has issued an Amber Alert for a missing 12-year-old boy.

The RNC said Tony Austin Greenham, also known as Aussie, was last seen around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, in the Corner Brook area after allegedly being abducted by his father, Tony Greenham.

The boy is described as approximately 5’1” tall and 140 pounds, with brown eyes, and short dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black, grey and white FXR winter jacket.

His 47-year-old father is described as 5’7” tall and 252 pounds, with blue eyes. He is bald with a grey goatee.

Tony Greenham is believed to be travelling in a black 2009 Ford Escape with the licence plate JEL 275.

The RNC is asking the public not to approach father and son, but to contact police or 911 immediately if they are spotted.

Amber Alert issued for N.L. boy allegedly abducted by his father
rbbm.
"Police have asked people to call 911 with information.

Sgt. Bob Edwards of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the alert was still active early Thursday evening and police were working to verify information.

He said all the tips submitted already had been identified as unfounded but he encouraged the public to continue calling in any tips about the child’s location.

Edwards said ferry services, regional airlines and wildlife officials in the area have been notified as the critical search in the wooded area of western region of Newfoundland continues.

“At this point right now with an Amber Alert now we need all eyes and ears on deck,” he said from Corner Brook. “Hopefully this comes to a successful conclusion.”

Edwards said he couldn’t comment on the specific risk to Aussie, citing the investigation, but stressed that Amber Alerts are rarely issued on the island.

“We need to resolve this as soon as possible and it’s important enough that we had to put out the Amber Alert,” he said."

"Police say they have concerns for the safety of the child and is asking the public not to approach the father and son, and to instead call the RNC immediately.

Reports on social media of the father and son being found are false, the RNC said.

"The lawful custodian of the child reported that the 12-year-old child has gone missing," said Sgt. Robert Edwards. "It was then identified that the suspect was the father."

It's believed the RNC have talked to the father, but the matter was still not resolved as of late Thursday afternoon.

An amber alert, via a text message accompanied by an alarm sound, was sent by the RNC to cellphones and other wireless devices across the province.

That alert was sent two-and-a-half hours after police initially alerted the public to the possible kidnapping.

A lot of tips coming in
Edwards said that Greenham is not the lawful custodian of his son.

"We've had a number of tips — a lot of them are unverified."

Edwards said he cannot remember the last time there was an amber alert in Corner Brook, and is stressing the importance of finding both the father and son.

"We don't have any information to show we had any child custody issues with Mr. Greenham but we know there is an order in place." Edwards didn't elaborate on the specifics of the order.

All airlines, rental companies and ferries have been notified, as well as wildlife enforcement, Edwards said."

"Police say a tip was received of a possible sighting in Port aux Basques as a result of the nationwide amber alert.

With help from members of Port aux Basques RCMP the boy was located at 6:55 p.m., according to the RNC.

The boy's father, 47, was arrested without incident in Port aux Basques for parental abduction, theft of a motor vehicle and breach of a court order.

He is currently in custody and being transported back to Corner Brook, according to police.

He will appear in provincial court in Corner Brook on Friday."
