CANADA Canada - Toronto Crimes Discussion

CityNews Kitchener (Dec 2025): States that Smith “lived and worked in Toronto during the time of the murders” and that he was known to police with a history of sexual assault. However, it does not specify where he worked. It would be interesting to know where he worked - what he did back then, any connections he may have had. (Police use DNA to link serial killer in the deaths of 3 women)

The picture of him as an older man looks like a mugshot. I’m surprised they didn’t have his DNA due to his past crimes. And given that that may be a mugshot means didn’t stop committing crimes. Could be his drivers license picture?

I’m wondering who within police services the public can contact to advocate for renewed attention on older unsolved Toronto cases. Specifically, I’m thinking about whether any of these files could be re‑examined using modern forensic tools such as familial DNA searching, similar to what was done in the Christine Jessop case.

One case that stands out to me is the 1980 murder of Lizzie Tomlinson. If the original evidence was preserved, there may still be items such as the cigarettes found at the scene or biological material from the assault that could be suitable for modern testing. It would be meaningful to see this case revisited and, hopefully, to see justice for Lizzie and her family.

Although Lizzie has been referenced on this and other threads, there is not a dedicated thread for her.
Having trouble finding appropriate news links to start a thread, so for now will bump this post by CrimeSolver..

Thanks, Dotr.

I’ve reached out to Nancy Hixt from Crime Beat in the hope that Lizzie’s story might be considered for a future season. My next step is to contact the TPS Cold Case Unit directly. If anyone has guidance, experience, or suggestions on the best way to approach them, I’d really appreciate it.

Oddly, it has previously been speculated that there might be a connection to this unsolved double murder, fwiw, speculation.
