Body found in burning dumpster in North York, police say | The Star
Toronto police are investigating after a body was found in North York following a fire in a dumpster Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a call at around 3:45 p.m. in the Finch Avenue West and Keele Street area.

The fire had fully engulfed a dumpster. The body was found when the fire was extinguished.

"TORONTO -- Toronto police are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a dumpster in North York’s York University Heights area Tuesday afternoon.

Toronto Fire found the body after they responded to a call about a trash fire on Romfield Drive, in the area of Finch Avenue West and Keele Street, at around 3:45 p.m.

Firefighters found the body amid burning material in the dumpster and called police.

Toronto Paramedic Services attended the scene, but did not transport anyone to hospital.

At around 8 p.m., police confirmed the discovery of the body and said they are treating the incident as suspicious".

This body has been identified as that of Christina Kanarellis and two men have been found guilty of indignity to a human body in relation to her death.

'How can I heal?': Men who burned body of Keswick's Christina Kanarellis sentenced

Theo Kanarellis is not getting better; he’s getting worse.

Two years after his daughter’s body was discovered wrapped in bedsheets, burning in a Toronto dumpster, he still struggles with dark ideations.

“Most nights, I end up sleeping on the couch,” he said. “I don’t want to go to sleep, because the minute I do, I will have thoughts.”

It’s easy to understand the Keswick father-of-five when you discover the depraved acts that followed his 25-year-old daughter Christina Kanarellis’ death, which were made public after two of her tormentors admitted to roles they played in her death and then the subsequent disposal of her corpse.

Vahid Pashazahiri, from Newmarket, and Marius Ruja, from Toronto, were found guilty of indignity to a human body following the death of Kanarellis at some point following Dec. 18, 2019.

Pashazahiri received three months in jail while Ruja received 18 months conditional sentence. Both men received three years’ probation.

Theo says the family feels let down by the court process and sentencing, which he believes went easy on the men.

My goodness. It's awful what they've done to Christina and infuriating that they've received only 3 and 18 month sentences!! My condolences go out to her loved ones. I hope with lots of therapy and love they'll find a way to begin the healing process. May God bring them peace and comfort their hearts.
