''Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have collaborated with Peel Regional Police to produce a video highlighting two cold case sexual assaults linked to the same offender. Investigators are appealing for any information that may help identify the suspect. On Thursday, September 27, 2013, at approximately 12 a.m., a female victim was exiting a transit bus in the area of South Service Road and Crestview Avenue in the City of Mississauga. An unknown male produced a weapon, grabbed the victim and pulled her to a darkened area where he sexually assaulted her. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. On Thursday, November 13, 2014, a female exited a transit bus at approximately 12:30 a.m. at Yonge Street and Bernard Avenue in the Town of Richmond Hill. The female was approached by an unknown male who demanded money from her, then pulled into a darkened area and sexually assaulted her. The victim required hospital treatment for her injuries. The suspect is described as male, 5’10” to 6’, muscular build, light-to-medium skin tone, wearing a covering over his face. After connecting the two cases, York and Peel Regional Police struck a task force called Project Blue Light. Despite investigating both incidents extensively in the years that followed, police have yet to identify a suspect. “Someone out there knows something about this suspect,” said Detective Sergeant Simon James, officer-in-charge of the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit and the lead investigator on the 2014 case. “Regardless of how much time has passed, if you know something about the offender or may have encountered him, police want to hear from you.” Though several years have passed, investigators in the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Cold Case Section, along with partners in the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit, remain committed to solving the cases. The York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Cold Case Section is staffed by specially trained investigators who use advanced forensic technology and information from the public, witnesses and victims to pursue new investigative leads on historic sexual assault cases. The unit, formed in 2018, is unique in Ontario. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7071, Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121 ext. 3460, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.''

''The girl was walking westbound on Canyon Hill Avenue on the south side of the street, when she was approached by an unknown man wearing a ski mask.

The man was armed with a knife, and dragged the victim about 100 feet, over a metal fence, into a field. She was then "viciously and violently" sexually assaulted in the field, James said.
Today, that area is a construction zone.
The victim required hospital treatment for her injuries.''

''On Sept. 27, 2013, at midnight, a woman in her 40s got off a bus in the area of South Service Road and Crestview Avenue in Mississauga.
The woman was walking in the direction of her home along South Service Road when she was "blitz attacked by the assailant", Det. Sgt. Mustafa Durgan of the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit said. The victim was forced to the ground by the man, who was armed with a knife and wearing a mask.
"The assailant was hiding under a tree, attacked her, brandished a weapon, dragged her along the grassy area deep into the bushes behind the townhouse complex … where he sexually assaulted her," Durgan said.''

''The suspect is described as a man of East Asian descent, five-feet, 10-inches to six-feet tall, with a muscular build and light-to-medium skin tone. He was wearing a mask over his face at the time of both incidents.

Police said it is believed he frequented the areas of Richmond Hill and Mississauga between 2013 and 2014.

"We want to bring justice and closure to the families involved in both of these cases," James said.

Sounds ripe for another familial DNA cold case solve. Does LE use that in Toronto yet?

“Historically, when we develop a DNA profile, it’s compared against the national DNA data bank,” Tebb said. Absent a hit, it sits on the data bank as an unknown male or unknown female profile.

Typically, police would only get a hit if a judge had ordered that person’s DNA added to the data bank. “The national data bank doesn’t even allow us to look for relatives,” said Tebb. “It has to be a direct hit, it has to literally be that person.”
