Suspect sprayed TTC passengers in face with unknown substance in unprovoked assault: police

Police have released security camera images of a suspect who allegedly sprayed TTC passengers with an unknown substance. (Toronto police handout)

''According to investigators, at around 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 4, a man approached a passenger at Greenwood Station and sprayed them in the face with an unknown substance.

Police say the man then proceeded to do the same thing to a passenger on the bus platform at Finch Station a short time later.

Both assaults, police say, were carried out without any provocation.

Investigators have now released security camera images of the suspect and are asking anyone who sees the man not to approach him but to call 911 immediately''

The Toronto Police Service is seeking assistance in identifying and locating a man involved in an assault investigation.

On Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 5:45 p.m., police responded to a radio call for an assault at Greenwood TTC Subway Station.

It is reported that:

- an unknown man approached a passenger and sprayed them in the face with an unknown substance

- the man then attended Finch TTC Station and sprayed another passenger at the bus platform

- both incidents were without any provocation

Security camera images have been released. Investigators are requesting that anyone who sees this man to not approach him and immediately call 911.

On Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 5:19 p.m., officers responded to a call for an assault in the Dufferin Street and Playfair Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- a man approached another man and sprayed an unknown substance towards his face

- the man did not sustain any injuries

The man is described as black, early 20s, 5'11" to 6'2", with a large build. He was last seen wearing a black winter jacket, black pants, black and white shoes, and a black face covering.

Delan Lewis, 24, of Toronto, has been charged in connection with a number of alleged assaults that occurred on TTC property over the last five months. (Toronto Police Service)

''In a news release, police said TTC Special Constables took 24-year-old Toronto resident Delan Lewis into custody at Finch Subway Station on Saturday at 6:48 p.m. following a string of alleged assaults that occurred between Oct. 16, 2021 and March 5.

At the time of his arrest, police said Lewis was in possession of a baton, bear spray and an airsoft pistol.''
