‘His memory is fading’: Family desperately seeks Vincent Che, missing North Vancouver father

"The family of a North Vancouver man who’s been missing since Tuesday morning is issuing a desperate plea for help.

Vincent Che was last seen in the driveway of his home in Lynn Valley on April 2 at around 10 a.m., North Vancouver RCMP said Wednesday.

Police have received at least one reliable tip that he may have been seen late Thursday morning in Upper Lynn Valley near Dempsey Road, and have asked residents to check their back yards.

North Shore Rescue and police have scoured the neighbourhood, trails and public places since then, but have found no sign of the 60 year old.

On Thursday, Che’s son Ricky said he’s especially concerned because of his father’s mental health.

“He does have some memory issues,” he said.

“His memory is fading. It’s coming in and out. He doesn’t usually wander off like this without contacting us.”

Possible Alzheimers patient, undiagnosed so far but his memory is fading they said. :( Very close proximity to me, and other people have died in this canyon before as it has rapids and some pretty steep cliffs. Has been missing since April 2nd and they haven't been able to locate him in or around the park, where they expected he'd go. The only bus stop close to his house is very far away, so it's not IMPOSSIBLE that he could end up in Richmond or Vancouver.

His cellphone apparently pinged in Richmond, which would require several busses and/or train over two bridges or taking a sea bus and then train and bus. Really strange. :( Hope they will be able to locate their father. We don't have any silver alerts here, yet, unfortunately and some areas are quite ethnically homogeneous that I worry people wouldn't bother paying attention. I will be going on Saturday to do a small search myself of the park.

FYI - Lordan Arts on youtube does a good coverage of this story.

Security camera footage is helping Vincent Che’s family piece together his route from the day he went missing.

“We were able to receive an individual's security camera footage, which showed that Vincent was travelling eastbound on Coleman Street.” said Ricky Che, Vincent’s son.

A screenshot from the surveillance footage shows Vincent Che heading eastbound on Coleman Street at 10:25 a.m. the day he went missing. (Note: timestamp shown does not account for daylight savings) - photo provided

Sadly, still missing as of Aug. 11, according to their Bring Home Vincent Che FB page.

Their post on that day said a volunteer drone group called Wings of Mercy was organizing a search for Vincent.

Lordan Arts did an interview with the son of Vincent and the son's girlfriend or wife (cannot remember), which I think helps give some more helpful information. They seem to be doing OK and they are just taking it day by day. I do hope that the drone group is able to uncover something - it really is an incredibly vast park with so many trees, there's no telling if for sure that is the way he went or not. :( It is a huge, huge area.

... that cellphone ping in Richmond, BC is a big clue. What have searches of Richmond uncovered? I believe Richmond is RCMP jurisdiction (as is North Van).

Bring Home Vincent Che

One of the update posts stated it showed that Vincent “left a group” he was part of in the WhatsApp at the beginning of August. It states that family has attempted to contact company with specifics but didn’t get too much from them.
However, the comment given is interesting for sure.

wow! that's a great lead. I haven't used WhatsApp a whole lot but I do believe that leaving a group definitely requires action on the user's part (as the admin says they didn't remove Vincent) if random technological error isn't at fault.
I hope it was Vincent who did it himself, and not someone else on his account. I wonder why they'd leave a group 4 months post disappearance? Maybe Vincent/someone else was worried that fellow group members could track him somehow through the app, though I don't know why they wouldn't delete the app entirely.

(please remove if this is not an approved source!)
The whatsapp faq includes this bit that, if the account is unused for 45+ days and the phone number becomes activated somewhere else, old account data gets deleted.
This user on webapps also linked the faq and said that after 180 days inactivity, you are automatically removed from groups. I can't actually find this info on the faq anymore - could it have been removed? 180 days (6 months) is different than the 4 months seen with Vincent, so I am interested to see where the user got this information.
Regardless, I am feeling like Vincent being removed from his WhatsApp group exactly 4 months after he was last seen (april 2nd to august 2nd) sounds less like a purposeful action and more like an automatic move by WhatsApp, but I'd love to be wrong.

No new information, but the family's FB page is still active.
1 year anniversary post, shared a picture (probably from doorbell cam or similar) that I don't think I've seen before.

In this March 2020 post, clarified that Vincent is still missing, no progress on a cellphone ping in Richmond, and no evidence he ever left Lynn Valley.
