Circumstances of Disappearance:
Ostertag was last heard from when he spoke to his brother on December 16, 1990. The next day, he didn't show up for his shift at his workplace on Maplewood Avenue in North Bay, Ontario. Ostertag's employer grew concerned when he failed to arrive at the staff Christmas party on December 21st, and reported him missing to the police.

Prior to his disappearance, Ostertag had mentioned that he would be out of town from the 18th to the 20th of December, but it was not known where he was going. He had only been in North Bay for a short time before he disappeared, and was known to hitchhike on a regular basis. Despite several attempts to locate him, Ostertag has never been found and his whereabouts remain unknown.
