''Police say Wolfgang Glaser was last seen leaving a bar on Main Street West, near Christie, Saturday night at around 7.

His vehicle was seen about 10 minutes later near the information centre by the QEW and Casablanca.

Police add he's not returned home, and it is unusual for Wolfgang Glaser not to check in with family.

He uses a cane, and was last seen wearing a blue shirt with Reduce, Reuse, Rethink printed on the back.

Police add he may be driving a silver 2007 Mazda5 hatchback with Ontario licence plate CPYA 061''

''The daughter of a missing Grimsby man said she’s desperate to find her 72-year-old father, who was last seen Saturday evening.Alisha Rullo said she’s worried something bad may have happened to her father Wolfgang Glaser, as she and her friends and family say it’s not like him to go silent and disappear. She said Glaser is a man of routine, and does the same thing every day, only this past Saturday he didn’t return home.In a state of disbelief, Rullo organized 1,200 flyers for her missing father, as she recounted what her father did Saturday evening.“He goes to Rikochez Bar and Grill on Ontario Street in Grimsby, from about two to about four o’clock [p.m.],” said Rullo. “He then goes to Teddy’s [Sports] Bar on Main Street from four to about six, sometimes a little later.”Niagara police say Glaser was seen leaving Teddy’s at around 7 p.m.Maria Cobham, the bar manager at Teddy’s Sports Bar, said Glaser is a regular.''

Oh gosh, going to multiple bars from 2-7pm every day and then last being seen in his car sure is a bit worrying!

It would be helpful to know where home is or where he went after he usually left the bars, because it seems likely he’s somewhere along that route.

Possible hook up?
Robbery?

Just reading around families posts, he's 72, walks with a knee brace and cane, possibly intoxicated (most likely), I'm going with some accident of some sort. IMO I hope I'm wrong

The bar hopping is a concern. A guy with that type of routine would be an easy mark.

very true but with his kids/family knowing his routine and physical issues I would lean more towards accident. I could very well be wrong. Seems like he is a local that they all know. I think the people there would know if something was off. Again, just me thinking out loud. IMO

I think Grimsby is a fairly small town, pop approx 30,000. You would think his route home would be straightforward.

In the article it says, "Last seen 10 minutes after leaving Teddy's 7pm. And then they say "He may be driving ..."

Did he normally take cabs?

rbbm.
“He was in good character, he was looking for some Swiss Chalet, so the gentleman gave him instructions on where the Swiss Chalet was,” said Cobham. “The three or four people I spoke to, who did speak with him, say he was in good spirits when he left.”

Police say Glaser’s car, a silver 2007 Mazda5 hatchback with Ontario license plate “CYPA 061” was seen on surveillance footage 10 minutes after he left the bar.

It was near the Niagara Gateway Information Centre by the QEW and Casablanca Boulevard.

“There is major damage to the back driver’s-side fender,” said Rullo. “I have had Swiss Chalet go through footage, and he is not seen in either the dining room, or the drive-thru, so we cannot confirm that he went there.”

Glaser is described as a white man with brown and grey hair and white facial hair.

He was also last seen wearing grey pants and a blue shirt with “REDUCE, REUSE, RETHINK” printed on the back.''

I wonder if he was heading in the direction of home when he was spotted on the QEW?

It could be the sudden onset of dementia. Years ago, my motherinlaw had a meeting with some friends. At 5pm they all said their goodbyes, got in their cars, and drove home. Except that one lady (in her 70's) never arrived. 24 hours later she was found 200 miles away, sitting in her car, pulled off to the side of the road. Because she had run out of petrol. She had no idea where she was, or how she had got there. No-one had noticed any odd behaviour before that, although of course there may have been some that went unnoticed. I guess there is always a time when dementia becomes obvious.

Yikes, there is an awful lot of water around there.

And Swiss Chalet is a chain restaurant. I had to read that about 4 times for it to make sense, not being Canadian. There are about 20 of them in the general area though, so not helpful in terms of understanding which direction he might have headed.

It is weird to ask where the Swiss Chalet is in your own town. It would be like asking where McDonalds is. Especially in such a small town. IMO

  • Community rallies as search for missing senior continues
  • ''Hundreds of people scoured Grimsby and the surrounding region in a search for a beloved, elderly community member who disappeared last Saturday. As day seven dawns in the search for Wolfgang Glaser, so too does the desperation to bring him home. A Facebook page has been launched where volunteers are coordinating their search efforts.
If you’d like to get involved, simply type “wolfgang glazer search” on Facebook''

Maybe he’s only ever had his SC delivered and this time wanted to eat there or pick it up himself?

I don’t think it’s weird.

The Swiss Chalet used to be in the "Gateway" which is a service stop off the QEW at the Casablanca exit. It moved to Grimsby on the Lake which is north of the gateway on the other side of the QEW. It's not weird that he asked where it moved to.

But it's a bit perplexing that immediately following receiving the directions to Swiss Chalet's new location he went to the old location at the Gateway, circled around it twice and left but never appears to make it to the new location. It's possible that he just wanted to see what was at the Gateway before moving on but he doesn’t appear to have made it to Swiss Chalet.

Grimsby is a small town. It was known as a safe place to live until recent history. Niagara in general has seen something like a 700% increase in crime. The Gateway now closes and locks their interior doors at 9pm because of the increased organized crime that happens in the parking lot. The Mafia has a grip on nearby Hamilton and an estimated 32 gangs operate in Niagara (according to a Standard Newspaper article At least 32 street gangs operating in Niagara: NRP)

There's frequent arrests for drugs, weapons and human trafficking, child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and what is affecting Grimsby the most is car theft and jewelery store heists as of late. Not to put fear into the hearts of his loved ones who might read this because from what I read in the group chat there's nothing to indicate he encountered criminal enterprise but it's a horrifying possibility that I pray is not the case.

Niagara also sees a lot of suicides steming from multiple layered socioeconomic crises affecting housing affordability, and a lack of access to healthcare services and honesty I could go on forever. It can be a really tough go for some people. I'm getting off track.

From accounts of friends and family, he's a creature of habit and so one would assume he would just get food and go home and if he had a medical emergency it would be found with his along the route to home. There's still mystery surrounding if he got food somewhere else and where that might have been.

I'm not sure if he had any other vices one could find in bar culture. Did he use drugs? Was he a gambler with a debt? Did he have a sexual encounter or solicit sexual services? OR did he have a friend he would visit on his way home occasionally? No one seems to be saying that in the group, I'm just tossing around other reasons why one might not go directly home after the bar in case it gives people ideas on where to look.

I sincerely hope his family can find him quickly and in one piece.

Hi curiouskenna,
Great post.

From what you say has become of Niagara & Hamilton it sounds like anything could've happened to him. Desperate times.

I would have liked to read the article you posted but it's paywalled.
