''TORONTO — One woman is dead and another is injured after a stabbing at High Park station just after 2 p.m. Thursday, police say.

Toronto police said officers responded to calls about a person assaulting and stabbing people on the eastbound subway platform Thursday afternoon.

Upon arrival, police found two people stabbed, who were given medical attention at the scene. Paramedics said they took two adult women, one with serious injuries and one with life-threatening injuries, to hospital.

Const. Shannon Whitehead confirmed one of the two victims had died. The other has serious injuries but is expected to survive.

She says she cannot confirm the ages of the victims.''

“It’s too early in the investigation to know whether the parties were known to each other,” Kranenburg said Thursday. “The two female victims were in their 20s or 30s.”
“I don’t have an age for the male that was taken into custody,” she added.
Kranenburg wasn’t even sure if the stabbings happened on the subway train or the platform and couldn’t say if any citizens helped in the arrest of the suspect.''

Good Lord!

We have been very lucky for a long time but violence on our Public Transportation Systems is definitely escalating.

The TTC really needs to up their Security. Can’t bury their heads in the sand any longer.

A witness says the man in the photo was wielding an object like an ice-pick on the subway.

''A witness to the fatal stabbing at High Park subway station on Thursday afternoon describes a chaotic scene with people screaming and scrambling for safety while a man wielded an object described as an “ice-pick.”

John, a CityNews employee who was riding the subway when it happened, said he heard a disturbance on the train as it approached High Park station.

“I saw a woman rush past me and into the next car and then a commotion at the other end of the train, children crying and some women screaming,” he said.

As the train pulled into the station, he noticed a woman bleeding from the hand exiting the train.

He walked off at the same time and noticed a scene at the west end of the platform.

“I saw a man in the corner of the subway car, holding what appeared to be a sharp instrument, like an ice-pick and he was being prevented from leaving the train by another man.”

A witness says this bystander intervened and held a stabbing suspect on scene until police arrived.

''Appearing confused and often resting his head in his hands, Neng Jia Jin made a brief video court appearance in Old City Hall Friday, less than 24 hours after he was charged with killing a stranger and injuring another at the High Park subway.

The thin man, wearing a white jumpsuit while sitting in a video booth at 14 Division, listened to the proceedings through a Mandarin interpreter. The 52-year-old was told he was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder.''
The details of Jin’s appearance are covered under a routine publication ban.
His next appearance by video at Old City Hall is scheduled for Dec. 14.''

'Flowers and messages of condolence addressed to “Nessa” now occupy the space by the tracks that became a crime scene less than a week earlier.

“My life has grown richer by knowing you, my heart is already missing you and my smile is brighter remembering you,” one message reads. “We love you,” and “If I had my life to live over again, I’d find you sooner my friend,” read others.

A suspect was taken into custody at the scene following the incident and charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Police said the attacker did not know his victims.'

''Neng Jia Jin pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and attempted murder in the Dec. 8, 2022 attack that killed Vanessa Kurpiewska, 31, while the train was stopped at High Park station.

Kurpiewska was on her way home from an appointment when she was stabbed. She was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries.

Jin entered his guilty pleas to both counts in Superior Court on Monday at a pre-trial hearing, the Ministry of the Attorney General confirmed to the Toronto Sun.

The Chinese national also admitted to trying to kill another woman on the train, 37-year-old Sulakshana Srijeyarayah, who survived the attack''.

Chinese national Neng Jia Jin, who has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and attempted murder, is seen here on the TTC subway car where he killed Vanessa Kurpiewska, 31, and seriously injured Sulakshana Srijeyarayah, 37, on Dec. 8, 2022. Court exhibit

'He went hunting for “Canadians” as revenge against an eye surgeon he claimed had intentionally botched his operation.'
“I was blinded by you Canadians, so I want to make you Canadians pay the price,” Neng Jia Jin would later explain to Toronto Police.

So Jin packed two knives on Dec. 8, 2022, wrapped his hands for protection and unleashed a frenzied attack on two innocent women aboard subway car 5161 as they approached High Park station – stabbing to death 31-year-old Vanessa Kurpiewska and almost killing mother of two Sulakshana Srijeyarayah.''

''The 55-year-old Chinese national, in the country illegally since 2010, was convicted Friday of first-degree murder and attempted murder after pleading guilty in February. ''

“All totaled, Mr. Jin has swung and missed, and stabbed his second victim approximately 27 times,” Richards said.

And then the soulless killer calmly took a swig of his drink.
Jin returns for sentencing May 20.''
