Can't Remember Specific Case. Can you help?

Hello WebSleuths,

I am currently disabled after getting major surgery on my back. I have a lot of time on my hands but not able to do a whole lot of physical activities so I started a True Crime podcast. I was thinking about a case today but I cannot remember what case it is. I remember there was a teen missing, possibly more than one, but I remember there was a large group of people who were helping with the search and some police officer, I think it might have even been the Sheriff, told everyone to go home and that the kid was just a runaway. Now, I am pretty sure they eventually found the body/bodies but I remember very clearly that the officer told everyone to go home and stop wasting their time. I remember being pretty angry that a police officer would do that, I know police can be incompetent just like everyone else but you would think it would be better to be on the safe side and assume that the girl(s) are missing and not make assumptions like that.

If you could help me remember what case that was I would be very grateful,
