This reminds me of Thomas and Jackie Hawks who were killed for their yacht in CA by Skylar Deleon. He threw the couple overboard out to sea attached to the anchor. The couple never recovered.

Grenada is truly, unbelievably lovely. Grand Anse Beach is one of the main beaches on the island, surrounded by high dollar resorts. There is a large medical school in St. George with students from around the world, and the town feels very safe. I wandered all over the place by myself and as a younger woman traveling alone, the only place I was advised not to go alone was the night market. The crime rate in Grenada is low compared to other Caribbean islands and even to the US. This is a shocking crime, and certainly a very rare one for the country.

I second this. I honeymooned in Grenada in October 2020 (the first week they allowed visitors back into the country after their initial COVID lockdown). It is such a beautiful place and everyone we met was out of this world kind and so gracious. I hate that Ralph and Cathy were robbed of their ability to enjoy their retirement, and the beauty of Grenada, and the beauty of life, in general, by these three heinous people.

In that case, in 1974, a couple sailed to the Palmyra Atoll, 1200 miles south of Honolulu, with provisions to stay for a year or more. While there, they encountered another couple who had other things in mind, and were never seen again.

Yes, they were murdered for their boat and provisions. Very upsetting tale.

That’s really terrible. Am I getting this right? She lost a son and daughter under tragic, horrible circumstances, and now she is brutally raped, and murdered with her husband?

I'm familiar with that case. Chilling.
They were armed but it didn't help in the end.

I'm wondering if Ralph and Cathy had any weapons, or if the boat was alarmed in the case of a break in ?
Sadly it's prob. too late for them now, but for other people sailing from country to country ?
Maybe outward pointed security cameras.

I hate to think of the fear and pain Ralph and Cathy endured.

Three inmates who escaped from prison in Grenada have been charged with killing two Americans after allegedly hijacking their yacht last month to flee to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, police said Thursday.

Weapons could be problematic when sailing from country to country.

In the end, many countries ban personal weapons. Likewise, boats can be inspected by various customs services. Customs Officers may not take well to very wealthy (well, by local standards) Americans flouting local weapons laws.

In the end, weapons maybe a good way to get the boat seized (well, if discovered).
