Somehow, I foresee Strickland calmly and coherently speaking of this letter ( fax ) during the hearing next week. He will address it with compassion for all tax payers, but close with stating our great country's judicial system's belief that all are entitled to a defense.
Your probably right about what he will say.But lets be honest how many cases with the DP get all the fansy experts that the state taxpayers are paying for.Not to mention is this gonna set a new standard for everyone. I see some defendents in the future saying but hey you paid for CA case I want the same treatment as her. This could get a whole new ugly if you know what I mean. Tell you the truth I dont live in Florida but if I did I would of probably sent a letter to the judge myself. Because at the end of the day if this was anyone else the person would be getting a public defender and they would not have experts like Dr Lee they would have experts closer to home. Its just not right IMO it stinks.

Jean Casarez is an [unusual person] just like most of the other talking heads who have no clue about Florida law (including Baez :)

snipped & BBM:

Second, Caseny Athony does not "currently" qualify as an adult tax-dependent person, thus her parents could not get stuck with the bill.

This is true; I should have made that clearer in my earlier post(s). As KC has been "supported" by the state since Oct. 2008, her parents would not qualify to claim her as a dependent for tax year 2009...

A person with to much time on his hands wrote a letter to the judge,

Well heaven forbid one of the taxpayers weighs in on how their money is being spent. I see nothing wrong with it, though it won't make a difference.

JBean pointed out to me, on another thread, that CA could not claim KC because she was not a college student. But what about Caylee, could CA have claimed her as a dependent?

Yes, Ga and CA could claim Caylee as long as KC was not claiming her on her taxes (assuming she ever filed them. However checks stolen from Grandpa don't issue a 1099 at the end of the year...)

It really doesn't matter if she did because Caylee isn't the one on trial, Casey is.

CA could have claimed KC even though she wasn't a college student as long as she wasn't working and was living at home as I stated above. But we all know KC said she was working, so CA's tax preparer most likely told her she couldn't claim KC. IMO, the preparer should have asked more questions about Caylee & KC's situation, though...maybe they did claim Caylee & we just don't know the particulars.

R. Hornsby actually posted the statement about KC not "currently being an adult tax dependent" & I responded. But to answer your question, yes...

Cindy & George SHOULD have claimed Caylee since they all lived in the same house and Cindy/George made way more money than Casey did.

Looks like it might not be final.

Well isn't that a kick in the teeth, I wonder if the Defense saw that statement coming in their crystal ball :crystal ball:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...-anthony-court-costs-20100312,0,3315926.story

snipped from article

"In a legal response signed this week, the Tallahassee-based Justice Administrative Commission said: "Because the Defendant has been able to provide over $110,000.00 in her defense, the JAC has severe concerns regarding the Defendant's indigency."

The JAC attorney also wrote that state laws require the court to consider when Anthony retained private counsel, the amount of any attorney's fees and who is paying the fees. This particular statement has me intrigued..just as when Richard Hornsby wrote about it...HMMMM

Baez and Lyon are not seeking public funds for attorney fees — and their motion stated Lyon is working pro bono. I wonder if this means he would still be getting paid by Casey

Baez has refused to say publicly how Casey Anthony is paying for her defense. OOOOOF course he has

The topic has been of much controversy, as Anthony, who had no assets when arrested in July 2008 and was charged with check fraud, is paying for her defense."

If the person who wrote to the judge did it out of concern I dont see anything wrong with it. Now if it was done just to have their 15 minutes of fame well then thats a different story.
