I really wish we could see that hearing because I think it will be a LOT interesting. According to this local news article, it's a closed meeting rather than an open hearing. Guess we'll just have to wish we could be a fly on the wall. :( I am so glad that JP is pushing them on this issue though. It really needs to be the first order of business.... then again, I think JB will be in trouble when it's over with. Maybe then we will find out where the blood money was spent... my bet is Target, Wal-mart and maybe even k-mart.

I don't know what hearing is set for this Thursday but which ever one it is Vinnie has been saying all day that Tru TV will be there. Anyone know which hearing it is?

That would be the budget hearing, and yes, we get to see it! Woot! No crying in private for Baez!

Sorry, I wrote that before Judge P's order came out that it would be an open hearing. It is the same hearing. Believe me, I'm VERY happy it will be an open hearing and carried by the media. I'm a firm believer of knowing where every penny of my taxes will be spent in this. I'd be at this hearing in person if I could... but I can't. Places to be and people to see sort of stuff going on for me Thursday. LOL At least I can catch up by watching the videos later. :)

Really? Because the Caylee side was very full when I walked in and I was just steps behind everyone, so I had to sit on the back row of the Anthony side. There seemed to be plenty of room there..

Yes, I saw there was room over on that side too (from on tv, not b/c I was there in person). But their row was pretty full with that tag-along couple they always bring with them. So that explains who they were waving and smiling at when they first came in and sat down. It was someone sitting on the prosecution side, and I remember thinking "who on earth are they so friendly with on that side of the room?!" Had to be Jim L. Who else? They disgust me.

BBM

That was my impression also - Baez got his 90 grand, and that was all he was going to get.

Even though he couldn't keep track of his billable hours for that 90G... that's another subject altogether. :furious:

.

I'll see your :furious: and raise you :furious: :furious: At least he can and will be held accountable for the State's money. I'm not so sure anyone but KC can complain about the 90G blood money she paid him.

I've been waiting for this...

Update to the murder case docket.

05 -04-2010 Motion
to Seal All Justice Administration Commission Documents

05-04-2010 Motion
Amended Motion for Justice Administration Commission (JAC) Hearing & Motion for Approval of Out of State Mitigation Specialist & Expert WItnesses

IIRC Rhornsby explained that JB would be paid the public defender rate. I'll look for a link.

I hope JAC refuses to pay him a dime as he has already gotten $90,000 for doing nothing. I will be surprised if JAC agrees to wages for him. They didn't seem to happy that the defense has already gone through all of that money with nothing to show for it.

This could be a VERY interesting, somewhat contentious hearing. Can't wait to read these motions.

The JAC has already said they they won't pay for out-of-state travel for expert witnesses, unless it can be shown that there are none qualified available in the state of Florida. And there are plenty of them available.

And Cheney has said that if they are turned down for things, he will take it to the Supreme Court.

I think Cheney may be doing most of the arguing this Thursday... I really do hope the JAC sends someone to be there in person, instead of over the phone.

ITA, MM!

Something else to consider to make it even a little more interesting -

Quote from Richard Hornsby, linked post below:
More importantly, Judge Perry is the legislative liaison for the ninth circuit. So you can assure yourself that that the purse strings for the defense budgeting conference will be pulled tight.

I don't post much, but I do read here often. i can see JB fighting tooth and nail to get these documents sealed. He does not want this info out at all.

My understanding is that NONE of the lawyers will be paid by the state, at PD rates or otherwise. Costs only.

I agree that Baez likely thinks there is some way he will make money from all this in the long run. Perhaps he plans to be famous for getting CA an acquittal (hmmm I doubt it). Then he would get lots of clients and could charge higher fees.

I found these statutes and it sounds to me like Baez and the other attorneys may qualify to collect through the state. I know it's a lot to read but I just want to get all the facts in.

These statutes only apply where there's a right to court-appointed counsel (for example, in a case for termination of parental rights). I seriously doubt there's any right to court-appointed counsel in Florida for a defendant in a civil defamation action.

These statutes are for both criminal and civil cases:

2. In the case of a person represented by counsel, an affidavit attesting to the estimated amount of attorney's fees and the source of payment for these fees.

5) The compensation for representation in a criminal proceeding shall not exceed the following:

This is just a small portion of what is said. She qualified for indigence according to the motion.

Legalmania........KC was found indigent for due process costs only..........JB is classified as privately retained counsel, and thus are not eligible for attorney fee reimbursement. The other current attorneys on the defense team are acting pro bono and are excluded from attorney fee reimbursement.

I realize this and it's so vague, they can ask for expert testimony, transcripts, travel expenses, testing, consultation and on and on. There is a lot that comes with due process. We just had an attorney in Georgia that ran up $1,000,000 in cost. Gotta get sleep finish tomorrow.

Baez has never stated he's doing this pro bono and his being paid close to $90,000 tells he isn't pro bono..so he might feel he should be paid but wonder if he will..

IMO, Baez is NOT doing this out of the goodness of his heart, he's in it for WHAT he can get whether it be publicity or money, he's after it! JMHO

He has already been paid. He has done nothing up to this point. $90,000 should take him through the whole trial. Had he done what he was getting paid for the depos would be done and we would be looking at a trial this year. With all the monies KC is reported to have received the taxpayers of Florida have a right to know where the money went. jmo

ITA and apparently so does JBPJr...for the budget hearing will be held in open court, not in camera as Baez suggested.

I still wonder though, Baez is arrogant enough to ask for his fees to be paid. What he's done with the $90,000 should be asked and answered at this budget hearing. Maybe JBPJr. will get to the bottom of it. I still believe, Baez will not take money from his pocket to defend Inmate Anthony, I just don't see him doing this free and so far, he hasn't..KWIM??? and that means touching any part of whatever money he may have left in his bank account that came from that 90 thousand...JMHO
